This seems so... expansive? maybe it's just my eyes playing tricks on me.

Dominion station bout to be larger than Bayview or Hurdman.

You're looking at mostly open trench, which had to be levelled with the old trench towards the new tunnel portal. The station building will start where the prefab wall is to where the the rock cut jogs back in. The extra wide notches close in are where the elevator shafts will be I think, and the farthest ones out by the temporary bridge are for alternate emergency exit stairs. The station building is actually pretty small and minimal, the rest of the platform length will be open to the elements.

Overlaying the Rail Implementation image from GeoOttawa, onto a BING Map image, I get the following:

I have sketched in the old Transitway path as well, for reference.

As you can see, the running trench was not wide enough for a station with side platforms. Therefore, there had to be rock removal to widen it. Also, since the train turns away from the Parkway, rock had to be removed in that direction. Where the Transitway veered north, a block wall was added to allow for back-filling.

I believe that the widened area is where the station house will be. What you are seeing is, basically, a Dow's Lake station duplicated to two tracks; but there will also be an upper-floor connection between the sides. This ‘bridge’ will provide the promised pedestrian/cycling pathway connection between the neighbourhoods on either side of the tracks.

I imagine Kitchi Sibi will look quite similar in design and scale as Westboro. Maybe a bit smaller. They will be "medium" sized station in the grand scheme of things.

Thinking back on my thoughts of that station area looking expansive....

I had this idle fantasy the other day of having a single AM PM express track in the middle. Maybe even both directions if they could figure out the switches and timings with the regular trains.

Lots of time to overthink things while taping and mudding.

When stage 2 opens I will for sure be riding from all 3 terminus to the other side just for kicks. 5 terminus if you want to include line 2.

I did it when stage 1 opened with my wife. Packed some snacks and started at Greenboro.

The cut and cover along the river, from the angle of the drone, looks pretty scary close to being inundated by high water. I know that's probably not the case today, but is the road bed made higher as a berm for the future here?

I know several apartment buildings that were totally flooded in 2019 after the water came through the road bed/over the road bed/through the culverts, and the City's pumps couldn't keep up.

The City's shallower tunnel alignment rejected by the "old" NCC would have faired far better during these events. At the time, floods weren't as frequent, but we knew about climate change, so that's not an excuse.

Kind of odd to see posts and rails being installed in the westernmost section that probably won’t see trains for about three more years.

For sure, but faster they can get this done, the faster they can move those crews to the Transitway trench along Scott and get that done as well.

EWC have been extremely efficient with their schedules and workforce compared to TNext. Sure, there are some delays, but those are mostly due to supply chain issues and tunneling (no surprise). TNext has no excuse.
