What's the longest through-routes through each of Canada's urban areas?

I believe Edmonton's is Whitemud Drive, which is approx 30 km from Winterburn Rd to highway 21. Yellowhead Tr is 27 km east to west.

London doesn't have any highways through the city, however Oxford St goes about 12km east to west.

In Montréal
A-40, from Repentigny to Vaudreuil : 74km
A-15-10-116, from St-Janvier(Mirabel) to St-Basile-le-Grand : 73km ( if you reach
A-20-720, from Vaudreuil to Downtown Montréal : 46km
A-640, from St-Eustache to Terrebonne : 47km

but the longest through route in the Montréal area is from Mont St-Hilaire on A-20, to Blainville (St-Janvier) on A-15, : 78km. Once you cross the Richelieu River, you are in the metro area.

In Kingston, the longest through route through the urban area would be Bath Rd/Concession St/Stephen St at 15km.

Within city limits, it would be Highway 401 at 36km.

It takes about a half hour to get across Ottawa from the far Western extremities to the far Eastern limit when traffic is going good, so I would guess something like 50 to 60 km on the longest part of the city which runs East to West vice versa.

No one has done Toronto yet and it is somewhat tricky. I will say it is Stoney Creek - Ajax, which is roughly 125 km.

Some may say it could be even longer like Grimsby to Oshawa, which would be about 150 km. There is some grey area in that zone, for instance, between Ajax and Whitby so I would say not. Perhaps in 5 years or so.

At the very minimum the longest stretch is Oakville to Ajax which is about 90 km.

The area between Whitby and ajax is protected, it won't grow any more than it has other than the West 407 link.

The longest through route in Thunder Bay is ArthurSimpsonFortWilliamWaterCumberlandHodderCopenhagen StreetAvenueRoad, which starts at the western city limits, through the south end, then along the east side of the city between the city and the lake, up to the northern city limits. It continues for several miles heading north, and going west, it runs about a mile before it connects to the new highway. Except for Copenhagen Road, this used to be Highway 11B/17B (and before that, was simply 11/17) but it was downloaded in 1998. It's 27.4km. Include the parts outside of city limits, and it's 37.4km.

The second longest is the Thunder Bay Expressway/Highway 61, which starts at the eastern city limit and goes to the western city limit, and skirts along the western edge of the city. It's 26.6km, but if you ignore the portion that is in Shuniah and connect the two pieces that are in Thunder Bay, it's 29.3km.

Yes but I've found since construction has started on that link they already seem much more connected as is due to how massive the interchange is shaping up to be. The gap isn't anymore than 2km in some spots.

I think Grimsby is pretty much part of Hamilton's urban area. Beamsville is almost arguable, the street connecting it to Grimsby is practically lined with houses.

Another question is whether you can scoot by Cootes Paradise or not.

Hamilton:
Using the distance tool on the old version of Google Maps, the longest "route" within Hamilton is probably Hwy 8 - over 53 km end to end, about 30k of it within the urban area (sections of former provincial highway southeast of Hwy 5 were downloaded in the 1990s and became regional roads). Highway 6 is pretty long too at about 47 km, but about a third of it now runs concurrent with the 403.

The 403 is 26 km through the city, 16 or so within the urban area. The Linc/RHVP are about 19 km together, and the QEW 18 km.

Barton St. is probably the longest single street within the urban area, at more than 20 km.

Burlington:
The major north-south roads like Guelph Line are all close to 18 km long from the lake to the city limits (but the urban area cuts off along Hwy 5 and the 407, 7-8 km from the lakeshore)

The 403 is about 16 km west to east, including the concurrent portion with the QEW east of the Freeman interchange.

For Moncton, probably the longest continuous roadway through the metro area would be Salisbury Road/Main Street/Champlain Street. It's the same street, it's just the name that changes at the causeway traffic circle and the Moncton/Dieppe civic boundary. For most of the way it's designated as NB Highway 106.

From the western Moncton boundary to the eastern Dieppe boundary, the distance along this street is 22.5 km, and it's built up nearly the complete way.

I remember hearing a news report that after the addition of HOV lanes the I75/I-85 became the longest continuous stretch of 10+ lanes in the world. I measured it to be around 60km on goggle earth(and that's not including on/off ramps) starting from the I-285/I-75 interchange to a point just north of Old Peachtree Rd where the HOV lanes start.

I had always thought the 401 claimed that title, especially after the Hurontario stretch was opened. Its about 61/61.5k from Hurontario to Harwood Ave. Unfortunately, it's not a continuous stretch of 10+ lanes because of that stupid 1.5k stretch of 8 lanes at the 427, its 50k up to that point. We have to 'cheat' and count on/off ramps to beat the Atlanta highway. One/off ramps would increase the 401's total to 63/63.5k(+Harwood/Hurontario ramps) vs 61k for the I-75/85 +ramps stretch.

In any case they're both pretty impressive highways.

Loved the vid! My 2nd hometown. And guess what? I am up at the look-out on Anarchist Mountain every - and I mean EVERY - time I both arrive and leave Osoyoos.

The summer view from up there is still stunning. (Even after seeing same about 1,000 times)
