Just got a facebook update from Fairbourne Station

"Join West Valley City tonight at 6pm at Valley Fair Mall for an exciting announcement of a major tenant! Great things happening at the mall to complement Fairbourne Station"

http://www.wvc-ut.gov/archives/90/%2...2011-21-11.pdf

Looks like with this announcement of a major tenant they will also announce future development plans to the Mall. My guess is that this will take place on the east side of the mall. ( side facing I-215 ) Any guesses to what it could be?

The Tribune's article says the dollar theater is staying, for now:

Quote:
The Cinemark Valley Fair 9 near the Megaplex has a few years left on its lease and will remain, mall general manager Jonny Arbuckle said. He predicts that traffic brought to the mall by the bigger theater will benefit Valley Fair 9, a second-run discount theater.

There was some renderings of the interior. I wasn't able to get shots too dark. It looks nothing like the one at the gateway. The design seems more modern.

Boring, but an asset for that part of town. It'll be good for the mall and for WVC in general. There's lots of money leaving WVC so that people can go see movies in nicer theatres; it'll be good for them to keep some of that.

Well, there's already Hollywood Connection practically across the street with 14 screens.

You're right, but that's about fifteen years old, and hasn't been well-maintained. I was there for the first time in about a decade a month ago, and it's pretty run-down. Unfortunate.

I hope this does not negatively affect the dollar theater, the theater at Hollywood Connection one TRAX station away, or the Redwood Drive- in just down the street.

I'd be surprised if the dollar theatre renewed their lease whenever it's up. Which part of me would be sad about, and part of me would be absolutely fine with.

Not to mention, their concessions are extremely overpriced. It makes Megaplex concession prices look cheap.

Stenar why is this boring? A utah based company builing a huge development near a mass transit hub, providing more entertainment opportunities to the future residents of Fairbourne station and according to ksl near a new Granger high school, giving good job opportunities for those high school students seems to be kind of exciting for the second biggest city in Utah. but I am a glass half full kind of guy.

The new Granger High School is just replacing the old Granger High School, btw--on roughly the same plot of land. If you drive by Bangerter Highway/3500 South/3600 West you'll see what's going up. Just so you're not thinking it's a second Granger High nearer the mall or sumpin.

IMO, Transit Oriented Developments need medium to high density housing and a mix of uses to be considered "Transit Oriented." Otherwise I see it as just a comercial development near transit, an opportunity lost for a livable, walkable, and connected neighborhood center.
