So I was reading an article in the the.spec.com on Hamilton's appeal to the Niagara Conservation budget request and there was one comment at the bottom that desturbed me. After all of the effort over the years of a lot of people educating the public in the benefits the commenter is complaining about, it is like nothing has been done!

Here is the comment:-

I'm not sure I'd take Spec comment posts as a barometer for public sentiment on anything.

There probably are people who think the same way in some cases, but there seems to be a small handful of regulars who add their 2 cents and they seem to have a script they stick to (often trying to bring an issue back to their own favourite pet peeves). I even wonder if some of the commenters represent one person with multiple user names.

Generally, the level of discussion on the Spec comments is atrocious. Few know how to debate, and few know how to do it with courtesy and respect.

Great video. The first year I lived in Hamilton I really didn't like it. I thought the city was going down hill and once the steel is gone so would Hamilton.

After living there for almost four years the city grew on me and I discovered all the hidden gems it had to offer. The downtown area had potential but I never thought that it would grow this quickly.

When I lived there the biggest building they completed was 11 floors, and now 20 floors seems to be the norm. If I ever get the chance to move back there I would in a heartbeat.
It's the number one city that I would want to live in.

Being essentially the gateway to Hamilton, having anything remotely urban there will enhance visitors' impressions of the city a lot.

"Proposed road widening" Main is not wide enough?!?

Thanks, MeIsThomas. I live not too far from there, and every time I pass by I think about how much I hate this car wash. Two ten storey towers seems like a pretty unlikely proposition, but flar is right: anything remotely urban would be great. I hope its snapped up by someone who can redevelop it to its highest possible potential.

Tremendous car traffic is good for a car wash. How this helps 2 modern buildings is unclear.

Ha. "Tremendous" is one of those words like "terrible" which now means good or a lot, but originally meant something different. "Tremendous" was at one point something that made one "tremble." So, I agree, the Main Street traffic is tremendous in that sense!

I actually passed by this stretch by bus just an hour ago, and was thinking about a development here. It is so bleak right now that I can't imagine who would be the first willing to gamble with an urban form here.

Walked past Jackson tonight, and saw One James North (McMaster) lit up super brightly from inside. Looked fantastic. My phone was dead but I'll snap a pic tomorrow night

Yeah when I was down earlier in the afternoon yesterday, they were taking some of the wrap off the windows on James and some of the hoarding was off inside the mall.

Has anyone heard anything about Dundurn Market? They also have a twitter account.

It seems to be some sort of a small food market, affiliated with Aberdeen Tavern. The location is right at Aberdeen and Dundurn, in a storefront that used to be a pharmacy but has been vacant for several years. Originally they had said “Early 2015,” now “Spring 2015.” On the storefront is a application for a variance to do with reduced parking for the use.

It’s great to see something coming into this space, even though I cannot picture exactly what the store might offer. That spot’s been vacant for too long, and any retail on Dundurn is welcome. That corner is not what it could be.
