Ahh! I see now. From looking at the photo I was picturing a highway like Bangerter. I didn't realize the street went below-grade there.

That was what I thought when I saw the rendering as well. The only reason I can think that they would have rendered that view is that they wanted to show the new bridge that was built recently over 4500 S. The bridge will provide access to the site via Main Street as the develepment plot is rather isolated and hemmed in between 4500 S., the UP/ Front Runner tracks and the TRAX right-of-way.

Ahhhh! What happened to the mountains?! Was there a major mountain-altering earthquake recently?

Not sure what you are talking about...looks pretty similar to the google street view if you ask me:

4500 South frontage road

The way the mountains taper on the left make it look like 4500 South is a North-South Street headed towards downtown. Mount Olympus is not promenant enough from that vantage point, and Ensign peak is non-existant...

I was hoping there would be other renderings as well. The bridge and street are pretty and all, but the actual development is like...just out of view. I kept clicking and scrolling, trying to see more of it.

well it looks like the The Living Planet Aquarium will be moving to Draper. Somewhere between 12300 and 11400 S. between state and I15. I guess there's alot of open land in that area. This wasn't my first choice of where I wanted to see them end up. Downtown was my first choice follow by Sandy off of 10000 S. and across the street from City Hall. Word is they hope to break ground in Draper come April of next year.

The article states that it will be on Lone Peak Parkway next to Edwards Lab. That is on the west frontage road in the office building areas. What a horrible place to locate to. No possible way for transit, and no other things around it to keep someone there. Does Draper understand that you build an attraction like that near your commercial district so people stay and eat or do other things. Dumb!

Have you been to Draper? That is not a bastion of smart planning. By the time they figure out the importance of planning and smart growth it will be way too late.

They will have a Aquarium next to an office park on a depressing collector road next to a freeway that sounds like a place I will never go.

I am fully aware that Draper is far from an ideally planned community but they do have a pretty large commercial area going off of 123rd South (as far as big box strip malls go). But this just goes so much further beyond bad planning. At least locate it near your parking lot water park and movie theater/restaurant areas.

Oh I know. I was just joking.

You're right, oh course, this is extra stupid even for Draper.

Then again, Draper City may not be involved. It might just be private property owners doing what they want, and what is allowed, with their private property. In the absence of proper planning you can end up with stupid cities.

A private owner doesn't necessarily have an incentive to be next to other attractions. They want a captured audience.

Store openings draw huge crowds at Fashion Place

Customers wait in line to enter H&M on its opening day at Fashion Place in Murray on Friday, Nov. 11, 2011. (Laura Seitz, Deseret News)

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7...ion-Place.html

Jason Lee, Deseret News

...The grand opening marked the completion of a four-year, nearly 100,000-square-foot expansion of the state's highest grossing retail center. While owner General Growth Properties declined to give specific details about the cost of the overall renovation and expansion, estimates range in the tens of millions of dollars.

"We've revamped the entire interior of the center, we've added a new wing and we've added new shops on the outside," said senior general manager Celeste Dorris. Over the redevelopment period, she said the mall has added about 30 new stores and increased its square footage by 25 percent....

NOOOOO! Ok, now it's personal. Let's get the Broadway Theater built before the suburban cities take that too!

The rendering is so small, that It's really difficult to see what it's going on. It looks like a funky suburban office building.

I do admire the fin. It looks like Aquaman's house. You know, if he lived in Draper. A Draper that had Mount Olympus in the background. Which no Draper does.

Does anyone know what that big building on the east side of I-15 just south of the 11400S exit is? I can't tell if it's a new mall, office building, theater or what...

That might be the new Scheel's. Sports/outdoors place kind of like Cabela's.
