I was wondering if that one was going to get moving this year... nice to see things getting under way.

Look at this magnificent new park! Such elegant simplicity!

I was annoyed when council shot down plans for a six-storey mixed-use apartment with a microbrewery behind the South Osborne X-Change and Mulvey Flea Market in favour of adding greenspace. I've seen the light now, though. This parklet is clearly the highest and best use of the land.

I just hope they don't clutter the uniform field of sod with any benches, trees, or fountains. That would really throw of the meditation of contemplating nothingness.

I was just wondering as I rode past that square of sod what on earth it was for. Perfectly situated between a commercial building, its parking lot, and one of the more off-road AT trails in the city for long sits listening to Osborne traffic and the nearby rail line. Only way to salvage it would be a good number of trees, introduction of some bush, and some seating. Then we're only 15 years of growth away from a reasonable little park.

Not that I disagree with what you've said at all, but just to play devil's advocate, that location doesn't exactly seem like the most appealing spot to build apartments/units. I can't imagine there being too much pent up demand for people wanting to live next door to a giant Op-shop that is only open twice weekly. Maybe that's just me though.

you know who disagrees?

the developer who bought the land and was ready to build units there before the city decided that it doesn't actually want any TOD:

"Albatross Development Ltd. [aka Dwell Design Homes] had proposed to buy the vacant land for $1.5 million, and build an 80-unit housing complex, with 25 per cent of the units set to be affordable homes. The project would have included a local craft brewery, ride-share parking stalls and outdoor bike storage."

It's obviously well-planned TOD that will surely increase ridership on the rapid transit line and possibly be that catalyst we need to switch over to LRT.

I think its pretty disappointing.. the city cant barely keep up with mowing the park along the trail as it is which just slowly fills up with weeds. Theres also a park just to the south behind Chaeban that is underutilized. This could have been a pretty cool little pocket if something were developed in that blue warehouse building that already has the doggy daycare.

Same buyer as the city parking lot next door? Or separate

I was wondering if something was up... I've seen lights on inside a few times this week

i always gauge the overall health of osborne village off of when/if the string lights that hang over the street at River and Osborne are functional or not. they have been replaced along with a marked increase of xmas decor along the strip. the new director of the Osborne biz is really showing her mettle! the set-up for the christmas market this saturday in the gas station theatre plaza looks promising as well. will have to check it out.

Noticed this Christmas market the other day as well. A refreshing change, and it definitely points to an Osborne Village BIZ that's no longer moribund.

The former Braemer’s Bakery building at 349 Wardlaw has been torn down and they’re starting to dig out the foundation. There’s some information about the new 4 story apartment from a few years back here:

Just saw the cladding others had been discussing for that white building at Confusion Corner. It is truly astonishingly bad.

LOL at that workmanship

I am the crappiest DIYer you will meet but even I'd be embarrassed by that.

The new Don Togo building further down osborne is also looking terrible as the white panels are now covered in brown and yellow stains
