Thanks for the info. The concept for the new Public Market fronting Downing Plaza looks great. That condo tower is well integrated too, and a good height for Moncton. Would be nice to see more condo towers of similar height (10-15 storeys) along Assumption Blvd fronting the riverfront park across the street. Would make for a nice interface where downtown meets the riverfront, and transform Assumption Blvd into a 'ceremonial' type grande boulevard.

Seems like there is road construction on Orange Ln. The tenants who face the lane way are none to pleased that it's cutting into there business But I for one am glad the work is in fact getting done in the first place.

Are you saying that construction is close to imminent? I'm just trying to read into comments here. I know he has proposed a few buildings in the past however nothing has ever become concrete. With this proposal I just assumed the same thing - nothing more than a thought and highly unlikely anything will ever get built. If it is approved and goes ahead - do you have any inclination as to when construction may begin?

I have it from a very reliable source inside Cushman & Wakefield Atlantic that he believes the Hotel announcement for the junction village is coming next week. So everyone will have to keep there eyes and ears open.

I know one company made a proposal to build it at the old jail site next to the law courts. I'm not aware of any other possible proposed locations. Hopefully it will en up there and the city will move forward with phase 2 of Downing Plaza.

This is the only logical location for the new RCMP headquarters to be built. A location immediately adjacent to the law courts is ideal. Hopefully there would be a direct physical connection between the two buildings. This would help to facilitate RCMP appearances at court dates in their dress serge uniforms.

I may need to be enlightened here, but why does the RCMP headquarters need to be moved?

The decision to build anew has already been made. The estimated cost is $40M. The only things to be decided are the location and the builder.

The current RCMP HQ is small, cramped and outdated. Significant renovations were necessary for the structure to be brought up to code. Even then, present (and future) space requirements would not be addressed.

Plus the top floor is so slanted that it is difficult for officers and civilian staff to work there.

I note that there is the framing for a large sign erected at the entrance of Ivan Rand Drive, right on the corner of the lot where the Hilton Hotel is to be built. I would imagine a large "coming soon" sign in that location once the announcement is made.......

Yeah noticed that go up a few weeks back and I've been thinking that's what it may be for. Looks like something is coming soon.

The City of Moncton and the federal government are investing more than $500,000 to upgrade Riverfront Park.

The upgrades will include improving trail connections, redeveloping an unusable outlook building, and enhancements to the boardwalk, including new benches and art spaces.

The main investment will go to rerouting a portion of the park's disconnected trail that runs through the Rogers business parking lot off the Petitcodiac waterfront.

This will help keep pedestrians and cyclists safe who now travel through lanes of parked or moving cars, said Arnold.

"That little section of trail was always kind of dangerous actually," she said. "This will really delineate the space so that those close encounters will no longer happen."

Arnold added parking spots in the lot will be restructured and moved.

The city is also investing money into upgrades to the outlook building along the trail located behind The Running Room.

"It has never had any plumbing or electricity in it," Arnold said.

Once the building is renovated, she said it could be used by a private company, an arts organization, or even an ice-cream stand.
