i believe CP owns/is in control of a few smaller ones as well.

Hotel looks a little conservative - at least when compared to the new parts of the airport. At least the wait is over.

Noticed a ton of earthworks south of the airport on my way to leduc this afternoon. looks like a massive site.

The hotel design looks o.k. Nothing too terribly interesting about it but it's not bad. Thanks for posting.

Shoot me if you want - but imo the hotel design is soooooooo underwhelming. Looks like something you would see on the way in to Moose Jaw. No wonder Mandel wants to annex the airport - the folks at EIA are in need of design reviews by EDC. Their hotel Proposal Call must have read "we will accept anything - as long as you build it".

As I said it is my opinion - so don't bitch at me for being...ungrateful that "something" is bing built. Lots of hotels across the highway look as good or better.

Airport hotels are always underwhelming, and this one for the sub 200 room range looks pretty good actually (if I counted windows correctly).

It could look alot worse - what were you expecting?

^i would have to agree...other than the exterior cladding, even the fairmont YVR is just a rectangle. Delta YYC bland. YYZ more like a hotel from near disney world.

I'm just glad that it looks better than some of the new hotels popping up. Like the one on Gateway just south of old strathcona, the Hilton Garden on SPR and 178, the Holiday Inn express on 170 and ~109ave.

I used to almost like corporate archictecture, because it tended to be attractive (in a middling, non-threatening way) compared to some of the crappier local stuff. It might not have been great, but at least it was consistent and had some thought behind it.

But these new-look suburban hotels are just brutal. Luckily it's not just Edmonton that's getting them, because they're sprouting up everywhere.

^haha...yeah i dont mind it thus far, but material choice, glazing color, landscaping, and how it ties into the terminal...

^Hopefully they will use same cladding and glass as the airport - then I think it will tie-in nicely. Otherwise, it might look pretty crappy.

There will be a bar, main floor, as well as a pool/spa. The 2-storey portion on the right side will be the conference/ball room with its own seperate entrance. The small circular piece on the airport connection will be a large wrap-around staircase. I Dont have many details. IIRC, this was designed by an Ohio outfit, with Manasc Isaac as the local.

It doesnt have to have the same cladding as the airport. Personally, the type of cladding on the airport would not look that good on a hotel. As cold said, if the materials are of a high quality - it should be okay.
As far as the rendering goes, its not so bad.
