I talked to the owner before: it's the lease, sigh. Landlord is demanding too much these days, and it can be crippling for small businesses to start a new leases when the old ones expires. Moral of the story: own your own shop if you can. Hopefully this one gets all the support and can move somewhere else to start a new one, but it just won't be the same if it is not situated in a beautiful grand heritage space.

Does anyone know what's being built in the little lot on Johnson next to the Mondrian?

It would be exciting to finally see a residential high-rise go up in Harris Green

I have really high hopes for those developments. I hope it they get approved.

Here's a couple of high rises being built in Langford...

I took a few quick photos of the Hudson Place 2 development tonight. Victoria's second tallest building. It's nearing completion.

I was driving up Burnside Rd this afternoon and noticed a new tower crane being erected. I pulled over and took some photos. It's going to be a 12 story wooden high rise.

That angle makes Race Rocks appear to be all alone in the middle of Constance Bank.

Very disappointed that the skyline will be littered with these eyesores. And who paints an arena WHITE in a region where moss is soooooo prevalent.

Thanks for sharing those great pics GS - I appreciate the effort and time it takes to do so!

I have my doubts about rail going up island being viable right now - I’d rather see money spent on LRT in Victoria, but I know those are two separate things really.

Developer proposes 19-storey tower on Med Grill site
Residential project with commercial on first floor; heritage-designated building will be kept.

The 4512 West Saanich Rd. lot is bordered by Viewmont Avenue and Shawnee Road, north of Royal Oak shopping centre.

https://www.timescolonist.com/local-...l-site-5394892

this is crazy density/height to imagine this far North of Downtown/Uptown. I am all for it but this will be a very interesting View Change when coming into the City from the ferry. Never as a kid would I have thought highrises would be starting at Broadmead/Royal oak one day.

Thanks so much Zoomer. I appreciate the compliments.

hollywoodnorth I read about that high rise at the Med Grill sight yesterday. Kind of a crazy proposal. It will be interesting to see how Saanich council votes on this.

So I hear that many want to refurbish the old passenger rail line between between Langford and Courtney again, which I think is a good idea.

There is also the idea of a commuter remain line between Langford and Victoria (would like more details on this)

So my question is, why don’t they combine these two into a single project? Have both a local commuter rail service between Langford and Victoria and a regional service between Courtney and preferably Victoria using the same rail line.

The chance of either of those proposals getting off the ground in the next 10 years is miniscule and I would really love to be proven wrong. The old passenger rail line is said to never be economically viable while the BC government has continuously said Victoria is too small to justify building a new commuter rail line within the city.

There should be two lines: one between the city centre and Langford, and another city centre and Swartz Bay ferry terminal. The ferry terminal line can have lower frequencies that coincide with ferry arrivals: it will have decent usage especially since it can also serve Mayfair Mall and Uptown. The Langford line should be dual-tracked for greater efficiency. Visitors/tourists can finally take the train to visit awesome spots such as Hatley Castle and Fort Rodd Hill Park in Colwood. It can work.

For the rolling stock: use German commuter trains.

So ridiculous. This 19 story high rise proposed in Harris Green was rejected for being to tall. It makes me worried about the London Drugs proposal now.

If anyone cares I finally found out what's being built on that little lot next to the Mondrian on Johnson, it's another 10 story residential but it's weird how I never saw a development application, sales signs or renderings for it

I highly doubt that's white paint, i'll bet the material they used for the arena only comes in white

It's a little late for that now don't you think since the government finally got off their asses and built the McKenzie interchange which was the cause of most of that road congestion?

https://www.cheknews.ca/proposed-266...uncil-1035828/

That Chek News article proved two things to me-half the people in this city are fucking stupid since the poll asked, "Do Vancouver Island's urban centres need higher density housing?" and the results were split 50/50 and city councillors who voted 7-2 against the proposal are even stupider than most since high rise residential construction brings myriad benefits with virtually no drawbacks. Even Geoff Young and Stephen Andrew who I thought had some common sense, proved me wrong

I was dumbfounded when I saw that the 19 story building was rejected. Crazy. I'm also amazed that they are building another 10 story building there too. It's such a small lot. It'll be interesting to see how it will look when completed.

Here's an interesting newspaper article from an old newspaper I posted on Flickr tonight.

An old article... by thegreatscaper, on Flickr
