I've been away from the area for quite a while now. Is there still the plan for the highway connection from 404 to 400 (Bradford by-pass)?

It goes to ravenshoe road, which is the southern edge of Keswick.

The Bradford bypass is still alive in the Bradford OP, but I have no idea if MTO ever plans to do anything with it.

1) The Toronto skyline in a dusk silhouette

2) A generic lakefront scene on the Great Lakes

3) A generic scene of the hills and forests of northern/central Ontario

Any other scenes that would be suitable?

All plates should continue to say "Yours to Discover" (or "Tant a Decouvre" if owner chooses) on the bottom though, and the Ontario name on top.
I like the way they are now. Nothing special sort of plain and easy to see.
I would hate this...

How about an plate that says National Capital Region instead of Ontario

We should do something a little more unique, like letting people choose a licence plate that matches the colour of their car. Just keep the font and logo the same, but change the colour.

Anyone know how they untangled the whole licence plate issue between NWT and Nunavut? That slogan on the Nunavut plates used to be the NWT's. As was the polar bear.

NWT now uses the slogan

Spectacular NWT and they added some blue.

The rectangular Nunavut Plate was introduced back in 2012

Most of the arctic is in Nunavut. They likely shared suppliers with NWT to reduce costs for both parties.

NWT updated their plate in 2010:

And Nunavut most likely kept using the old design until they ran out of plates. They probably ordered a certain amount (10,000 or 25,000 or something) and decided not to waste them.

Few months ago I saw NWT license plate here in Vancouver. Very rare thing to see, atlhough Nunavut must be the rarest. I cannot imagine there being too many cars on the road there.

Iqaluit actually has a traffic jam twice a day in the centre of town. Iqaluit has the most cars and trucks followed by Rankin Inlet. In all other comunities the vehicle of choice is the atv or snowmobile. You do see cars and trucks in all comunities but those are ussually government. You can rent a car in Iqluit from Driving Force but you can walk most places.

A transport that crossed the highway and went into a ditch closed the highway for an hour on 17 just east of Blind River. There was a long line of traffic going west.
If this was a divided highway it would have been a lot less of a hassle.

Pictures by me.

Its not exactly like divided highways never close, just that divided highways rarely close both directions. Even then it closes at some points. It seems like the 400 is closed both directions at least a few times a year.

"The new plate goes into circulation in July to replace the polar bear-shaped plate that Nunavut has used under license from the Northwest Territories since it become its own territory in 1999.

The NWT recently made changes to its plate and the design was longer available for license in Nunavut."

At least with the 400 there are alternate routes paralleling it, even if they slow down they move.

Trust me, I wouldn't define highway 27 as "moving" during a 400 closure. Its not easy to move an 80-100,000 pphd road onto a road that can't handle much more than 20,000, if that.

That said, twinning northern highways would result in lots of paralleling roads where the highway was realigned, creating some bypass routes, even if not for then entire length of the road. It would also severly reduce accident rates meaning it happens less often. But even then, I find it difficult to justify twinning highways without even 2,000 pphd. The part between Sault ste. Marie is around 4,000 I think, so that may make a bit more sense though.

I believe that the AADT between Sault Ste. Marie and Espanola is around 4,000 to 7,000 generally. (Between Espanola and Sudbury it is about 10,000 to 15,000, which definitely warrants 4 lanes)

Once west/northwest of SSM, it drops to very low numbers, about 2,000 except near the larger towns.

And at least one direction of Highway 401 somewhere within 50km of Kingston seems to be closed at least once a week.

Port Mann Bridge update from today.

This is how the world's second widest suspension bridge looks from below.

They have built quite a construction bridge on piles below the two bridges.

On the east side not much of the old bridge remains.

Panorama of the old bridge disassembly.
