Sweet view. Those stairs are incredibly annoying. Every loud and obnoxious street kid would congregate on those at night. We used to have a place in Viva City facing north and we would fairly regularly hear all shit break loose after a frustrated resident in the building your in would toss some eggs or something down at them. But of course they wouldn't learn and the same thing would happen a week later.

Lived by those stairs 5ish years ago. Walking to work one day there was a group of 5-6 people sitting near the top smoking crack (or at least I think it was crack... Didn't look like a weed pipe...) had to squeeze by them because they were taking up the entire stairway, so I phoned the non emergency police line and the response I got was, " unfortunately this is very common downtown," ...and police are busy... We might send someone by...

So according to the edmonton police, intimidating groups of drug addicts are just part of life now in Downtown edmonton and we should just get used to it? I guess?? Still wish they would put in a grand staircase there with winding accessible path and flower beds and such...

To be fair, the response and follow up I got from EPS about Beaverhills park was the exact opposite earlier this fall.

Groups of dopers are constantly congregating on the McDougall Hill stairs and the benches south of Telus Plaza. At least they haven't bothered anyone as far as I know and let people pass by, but it must be intimidating for some people.

That last shot really reminds me of this vantage point of Toronto's flatiron building:
