Leafs tickets will be some of, if not the hottest tickets in town. If you think I'm joking, you never saw them visit during the Jets era.

It pains me to say this, too. I'm the last person you'd call a Leaf fan - just ask our resident Torontonians on any other hockey thread.

That's the case in all Canadian NHL cities.

Not here. Vancouver (and when they're good, Edmonton) is by far the most asked for. I suspect that within a few short years Winnipeg will change and the divisional rivalries will heat up again. People care a lot less about the "original" 6 stuff these days, considering more and more hockey fans were born post-expansion.

Are you kidding me? When I was in Calgary ALL of the maritimers would be trying to get Toronto tickets. The problem is that the Leafs only come to Calgary every other year so the effect is less obvious.

Edmonton and Vancouver are obvious divisional rivalries in Calgary, but Leafs fans are everywhere and covet the ability to see their team play.

The fewer Leaf visits certainly help, but trust me - I get 10x the people asking me for Canucks tickets as I do Leafs tickets. Hell, I used to be able to still find Leaf tickets at Sportchek. Habs too, for that matter. And this was back when they didn't even come here every year (they visit annually now, that changed a couple of years ago)!

Maybe it depends on which circles you run in. I know a lot more people here from Edmonton or BC than the Maritimes.

I also base it on how many opposing jerseys are visible. The 'dome is almost half Canucks jerseys these days.

The most expensive seats (P1) are sold out for the next 5 years! Amazing.

On Tuesday while listening to the announcements and the need to sell 13K season tickets, I honestly did not think they could do it. Committing almost six grand per seat for 5 years is a big deal.

Glad I was wrong.

Since there is a 3 to 5 year commitment to season tickets, I wonder if there will be a waiting list. If it is relatively large, could it be a guage for the demand for the new winnipeg team. What is the market size for Winnipeg's new NHL team? I know the metropolitain area has greater than 750,000 people by now. What about areas nearby that are not included in the CMA? There are some municipalities that seem to have a burgeoning economy and high population growth nearby such as Steinbach, St. Andrews, Rockwood, Hannover, Stanley, Winkler, Morden etc. Some are even closer to the city of Winnipeg than communities within the CMA. What about North Dakota and Northern Minnesota and Sakatchewan? From what I understand, there are groups of people from Saskatchewan that buy tickets for Oilers and Flames hockey. Will Winnipeg's new team split Saskatchewan's allegiance 3 ways?

Just to add to this, in the Free Press today it was pointed out that the NHL keeps "a few hundred" seats for "players' families, visiting players availability and for league executives". So those tickets wouldn't be available until game day or just a bit earlier (and obviously only if they aren't accounted for).

So there will be the odd good seat available - that's good to hear. I'd like to see a couple of games a year and I'm not fond of sitting in the rafters.

This thing is over tomorrow afternoon - no doubt about it. The lower bowl is essentially sold out. Man, there is a lot of crow to be served around Canada very shortly.

First: Winnipeg will never get the NHL back. Wrong.

Second: Well, even though they got the team back, those cheap wholesale hicks won't ever purchase expensive season tickets? Wrong. And in record time, with 3, 4, and 5 year commitments.

Third: Corporate Winnipeg isn't big enough to support this team. Wrong. Boxes, gone and with 7 and 10 year commitments and a waiting list.
