Great shot! But imagine that angle now with both the Trump Tower 745 Thurlow in view.

Well, I think Trump would be blocking the view of the Shangri-la, but something similar to this angle would be really cool to see.

This evening from the rooftop of The Spot building. Trump is invisible from this angle.

Lots of Celebrities living in the Shangri-la and some have purchased at the Trump Vancouver. Ryan Reynolds has a suite at the Shangri-la, goes for coffee daily at the Starbucks. Vancouver has definitely become the playground for the rich and famous!

The City of North Van should re-brand and put up a sign in Hollyburn call it "Hollywood North"

Vancouver has become a workplace for actors, they don't come here to play. Reynolds is from Vancouver.

Ben Affleck and Jen Garner rented the house next to me when I lived in Deep Cove and they were all over the globe in between shoots. When you get to that level you don't really stay anywhere very long.

Anyone have an idea on how the window washing rigs will work on a building that slopes inward going down? It might not look it in the photo but its quite dramatic in person.

No idea, but here are my thoughts:

1. Drop down two parallel cable lines from the roof and anchor the bottom as close to the building as possible, essentially creating two sloped lines.

2. Run the worker's platform down those two cables and using suction pads to hold steady while being stationary.

Or they can do the same thing as in "1" and use an automated cleaner unit suspended on the cables. Would be quite revolutionary though.

Just a postulation, but we shall see......

Trump seems to be slowing down lately but I think they must be concentrating on finishing the podium and I guess the interior units.

thanks for the pics , beautiful as usual !!!
Eventhough this sounds like sour grapes, I have to say this. What is the point of living in downtown when you can clearly see your view is limited unless you are situated almost to the top 1/3 of the building. Even then the view is partially blocked by yet another skyscraper. I am sure Trump tower at least partially blocks the view to the front of Shangrila. Dont forget you already pay preimum price just being downtown and the floor differential . All you see is your neighbour , so you pull down the blinds day and night for privacy. Not to mention the parking in downtown, no body will come to visit you. I think people flock to downtown at least some for the status, not the practicality. imo

Three years has passed and Shangri-La is not alone anymore. The photos don't align perfectly as I happened to take them from different room (silly me). My apologies for that.

Not sure if I have mentioned this before, but last year I had the chance to discuss with a building inspector that had also inspected the penthouse unit of Shangri-La some time earlier. He told me how the penthouse windows had big issues and were leaking regularly. There had even been ponds of water on floors after the unit had been empty for some time.

But here is the most funny detail of them all. The upper units and the penthouse itself were supposed to have better windows than the floors below, but due to some miscommunication during construction, those better windows ended up being installed on the lower floors and regular windows on the top floors. I was given the impression that this was noticed only much later and never fixed.

So yeah, I am sure there is lot to this news and one would expect much better from units that cost up to 20 million dollars!

Won't comment on the lawsuit, but the above story about the upper windows being installed on the lower floors is untrue.

I'm always amazed at the amount of churn of units at the Shangri-la. Between it and Patina they must account for half the listings west of Burrard!

I dont think the windows could be swapped as the upper units and penthouses have 10 and 14' ceilings respectively. the lower units have 9 foot ceilings

The story about windows getting swapped might be a legend and the person telling me had not been personally involved in that. But I have no doubt that he has personally been inspecting the condition of the penthouse unit that sold some time ago, as he was an older building inspector clearly knowing what he was doing. So I have it easy to find that the windows are leaking, fogging, etc. Sounds like a very similar story to what happened with One Wall Centre...
