All that's left for passenger service at YHM of significance is WS to YYC.
Disappointing but not surprised. A shame they couldn’t try and maintain a few weekly flights.

I can’t really blame them though, many people here don’t have that much discretionary income to splurge on trips right now. I was fortunate enough to try play out in September 2023.

And just like that folks, we’re heading back to rock bottom. The last nail in the coffin will be westjet cutting all sunwing service from us next winter (although I think they can’t as part of the federal deal to merger).

YKF is doing handley well right now, good on them. Incentives pay off long term.

I don’t see YHM getting anything until our economy spurs up a bit.

As someone who moved to YEG, I really do wish for a direct flight between our two cities again.

That's too bad. It could at least become the Hamilton International Bus Station.

What a disaster.

Rock bottom sums it up. And over on UT there is all this buzz over a T1 expansion at YYZ. When will a real plan be put in place to get some international players flying between secondary airports in Canada.

I actually think Porter would so quite well here. Smaller aircraft that they would be able to fill. Those Embraers have really good range. Having said that this would shock me. I can't see them operating at YTZ, YYZ and YHM but you never know.

Porter bringing the E2? Well if true, that would be a nice add. I'd imagine, if anything, it would be service to/from YOW and/or the new Montreal airport. I thought we would maybe get Q400 service.

If we can somehow keep play simply because of cargo, that would be great news.

JetBlue announced a new route to Halifax. Ugh, one can dream of having them add YHM.

YHM announcement

Big announcement coming tuesday. Sounds like another investor in the airport that's suppose to transform the airport.

Two companies, including private jet charter, coming to new facility at Hamilton Airport

https://hamiltonindependent.ca/two-c...ilton-airport/

John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM) will soon be the site of a new $15-million facility that will feature three separate hangars that will reportedly be designed to incorporate “an array of premium services.”

The new multi-use Fixed-Base Operator facility is led by Biddle Carson Developments.

Two tenants, private aircraft charter company FlyXcite and helicopter and fixed wing completion specialists Aerofina Aviation, have already been secured for some of the hangar space.

In the 100,000 square foot facility FlyXcite will occupy 30,000 square feet while Aerofina Aviation will occupy 20,000 square feet.

The third 50,000 square foot hangar is scheduled to be available within the next two years.

Meanwhile, the two other hangars will be constructed in phases, with the first phase expected to be complete in late 2025.

Premium services that will be incorporated in the hangar design are said to include a lounge, conference room, and second-floor observation deck for viewing aircraft arrivals and departures.

The facility will have access to the airfield via Taxiway Foxtrot which is Hamilton International Airport’s newest taxiway and road access via the recently built Aviation Drive.

The project by Biddle Carson Developments is the second project to break ground at Hamilton International’s Northeast Airport Development Area.

Latitude Air Ambulance broke ground on a new 44,000 square foot hangar and office complex in the Northeast Airport Development Area in late 2023.

3 new hangars

That's old news, they already broke ground last year. Check back at the post from October. This announcement next week that I mentioned is something different. Possibly has to do with the Porter buzz that alot of ppl around the airport have been talking about

Interesting. The airport could use anything from the passenger side.

Curious how you know this...

I work at the airport and know ppl who work for the airport authority. Someone sent me the invite for the press announcement but I don't know how to add the pic to this message but it says "Please join us as we announce a significant investment and new partnership at John C Munro Hamilton International Airport February 4, 2025 at 11am Departures check-in area". My source also mentioned in the email it said "A pivotal moment for the airport". They also said that there's been engineers and contractors checking the terminal structure. He thinks they might be doing an addition, possibly adding a second floor

I read in the paper yesterday that the Pickering properties that were meant for an airport are being turned over to Parks Canada putting an end to an airport ever being built there. Maybe the feds will put their focus here as an alternative to Pearson.

All these rumours make me really hope Porter will come in and give us the Toronto Island/Montreal-Hubert treatment to make us a mini-hub.

But we’ll see. The announcement happening in the departure area is… unique. Swoop/Flair were announced in the check-in/arrivals area.

If the announcement is indeed Porter, and they launch west service (doubtful), I’d expect to maybe see westjet retaliate.

Perhaps we’ll get the YKF treatment for a larger single floor expansion and new arrivals area. Lots of what-ifs.

Porter is really good at hiding upcoming routes and announcements.
