Burnaby! But a fair point nonetheless.

Burnaby isn't a city... it's a suburb of Vancouver, in the same category as Mississauga... just a suburb of Toronto.

"Burnaby
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Burnaby is a city in British Columbia, Canada, located immediately to the east of Vancouver. It is the third-largest city in British Columbia by population, surpassed only by nearby Surrey and Vancouver.
It was incorporated in 1892 and achieved City status in 1992, one hundred years after incorporation. It is the seat of the Greater Vancouver Regional District's government, the board of which calls itself Metro Vancouver."

Touché... still doesn't change my personal opinion on the matter.

According to their logic, Mississauga is a larger "city" than Vancouver. And that makes zero sense.

Burnaby's existence is very much tied to Vancouver, but it's very much its own city. If it was a true suburb, it would have to adhere to Vancouver's strict zoning laws, and it wouldn't have few skyscrapers going up right now. So yeah, while Burnaby benefits greatly from Vancouver, it plots its own destiny within that relationship.

I'm not sure how Toronto and Mississauga work. Does Mississauga have its own mayor and city council or is it tied to Toronto?

Mississauga is its own city, in fact they will soon have to pay a toll to come into Toronto.

As for Mayors, they've had a noteworthy one.

Mississauga is a city.. this isn't even a discussion. It is NOT part of Toronto… it is merely Toronto adjacent. If you know anything about it's origins it does have Toronto to thank for much of its growth and it did develop as a sleepy suburb and is working towards shedding that image.

Just depends on the terminology being used. To this end, the city of Victoria is not the largest city in the Victoria metro or CMA.. Also, Canada's 100 largest municipalities - link.

Being a separate municipality with all of these trappings is not necessarily the defining factor in whether a place is a suburb or a true "city" (the way most people define it anyway).

In many cases, you can be both: Mississauga is arguably both a city and a suburb of Toronto. Whereas Toronto is just a city.

I know you're half-joking but it's funny how this is kinda true.

Montreal has and had good skyscrapers but the skyline was always very gappy.

Even Ottawa historically has had better canyons (albeit with way shorter buildings) than Montreal did.
