You're an ignorant fool if you don't think Edmonton's development is incredibly significant in comparison to other major cities in Canada. And I'm sorry, but that is objective.

I did mentioned the ICE district. It's impressive but, there are also large swaths of urban area in Edmonton that I didn't see a discernible difference from a previous visit 8 years ago. There's few new builds, renovations, streetscaping and, other area improvements.

Many Canadian cities have seen their Top 10 tallest change significantly. As impressive as 3 new tallest are, it also comes after a height limit was pulled. Of course, I never would have expected a 250 metre tower to rise in Edmonton but, it's also a bit a vanity project for both the city and the developer.

You don't really seem that aware of what has transpired in Canadian cities from coast to coast during the big building boom. I really hope you wash your toes well.

What is in this giant thing these days?

I remember going in to Eaton in the 80's and they still had elevator attendants. The were very professional and reminded me of the men who waited on you in Ben's.

/\ top floors have been converted to offices. The bottom half of the buidling is commercial, anchored by departement store Les Ailes, now close. A Saks Off 5th Ave will replace it, just a block away from the future Saks 5th Ave that will take a chunck of The Bay.

Looks like every single lot is built out doesn't it? In reality it's far from that. Of course, it's a thousand times better than the 70s wasteland it once was.

Does everyone know that the steeple of the church in that photo (Christ Church Cathedral) is an aluminum replica. The original foundation was incorrectly designed for the soft soils beneath and the original tower/steeple slowly started to lean until it had to be removed in 1927. The replica went up in 1940. Of course, when the shopping mall was put underneath the church was given a very proper new foundation.

This was recent news to me, along with the fact that St James United, just a couple blocks east, was designed and built with a two lane bowling alley in the basement. (?)

A lovely photo from, I think, Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver. Here's a sobering thought: a search is going on for two men lost on one of those North Shore mountains in Vancouver.
