^^^

We've only started one started one highrise in the past 2 years? Are you serious?

And what would you say if I told you downtown Edmonton already has more people living in it than downtown Calgary?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downtown_Calgary

"had a population of 8,015 living in 5,121 dwellings, lower than that of downtown Edmonton and a 0.7% decrease from its 2011 population of 8,071."

also, hi everybody, thought this place could use another loyal edmontonian

Yeah, not sure what's going on with Spring2008 as he's normal until he comes in the Canada section and sees anything about Edmonton. Then he seems to do a 180 and go off the rails. I love to tease Edmontonians as much as the next Calgarian but he seems to have an unhealthy hatred. I might be wrong but iirc he once said that he was originally from there (I think). That could explain something.

^I would and that is from a very different perspective than skyisnolimit.

Work has started on the UG parking, with the podium integral to Ice District's operation, $$$ making and logistics. There are commitments with major tenants and this new 47 storey tower has location location location long-term. It will likely also be one of the only residential towers ready for occupancy in 3 years, so it will have nearly no competition for modern, mid to higher end, downtown.

Katz has the means, expertise and partners to keep this ball rolling. My bet is that we see north of 104 Avenue beginning to rollout at the completion of this next tower.

Maybe but, you have a propensity to get uber excited about developments and take dates as binding contracts. There have been a few development over the years you adamantly posted over and over again that construction is starting soon only to have them never materialize. Your prespective is closer to skyisnolimit's than you think.

Katz isn't the only billionaire playing developer. There's one right here in Toronto that has built a tower that makes Stantec's height quite cute and he totally regrets it.

Being there; done that. You know just enough where it becomes dangerous (unless senior is in you title than well done)

I'm patience. I'll wait and see if this becomes as big a transformation of the downtown as the hype.

The Ice District is like bringing West Edmonton Mall back downtown. The desirability and attitudes from suburban Edmontonians about downtown are going to drastically improve in the next 5 years. Suburban Edmontonians are already talking about downtown in a positive light. That's a huge change from the last 5 years alone. You won't find a transformation of attitudes that significant anywhere else in Canada. It isn't just the Ice District, everything around it is being transformed.

Guys guys guys... can't we all get along, #albertastrong, and just accept that Edmonton will have a taller tower than Calgary, tallest in Western Canada for that matter

I get your point but find it meaningless. All their success came in an amazing 10 year run that hardly anyone here even witnessed. Since then they've been a mediocre franchise. What you're trying to do is extrapolate the 10 year run into 36 years of success, thats not the way it's gone down.

I also realize that technically there is a continuation of a franchise when they move but tell me how much people in Calgary and Winnipeg care but what happened when their franchise was in Atlanta? Same thing goes for any franchise that has moved since the Oilers dynasty.

I was downtown Toronto Sat night (incredible weather it was 30C at 7pm) and I saw some of the updated construction. These new towers are really starting to impact the feel of the city. The ICE towers, One Bloor, Aura, INDX, L Tower, Harbour Plaza, Sunlife Financial Tower, etc. All this infill just makes the city seem bigger and more grown up. It's really all coming together.

I walked by this project at 488 University, it's looking really good. Love the glass.
