I will say, Fougere was a pretty low bar - I can't think of a single thing that he did to move this city forward in an active manner. He didn't get in the way very often - but that's not exactly leadership. I get that the Mayor is just one vote on COuncil - but they set they are the only full-time 'Councillor," are the face of the city, and they can set the tone/direction... if they don't, Council fills the gap. And having part-timers setting direction by committee isn't a great way to move forward. The Foug is lucky he stepped in during a boom - can't imagine the disaster that would have been left if he stepped in during tougher economic times in Sask.
I always got the impression that Fougere was the mayor that had to find ways to pay for all the things that were promised, ignored or delayed under Fiacco. The stadium, water treatment plant, increased dedicated spending on roads etc.

I’ve been wondering this as well. Can’t find anything about it anywhere.

Seems strange to build something new when there is so much open space in the mall. Could they not try to convert areas of the existing building into "strip mall" entrances? Are there city bylaws about operating hours if a business is connected to a mall?

The Northgate Mall is a mess, their website is a mess, their owners/property management are non existent and they still have food court seating from 1981. #tellmehowyoureallyfeel lol. The website still shows Lowe’s for goodness sake.

For the heck of it, I called Northgate Mall and played dumb, asking if there was something being built on the property. "Yes" was the answer. So I asked what it will be? "A building" was the reply. I asked if it was going to be a restaurant, and she said "No information". LOL, of course not.

So how big is this thing judging by the footings? I immediately thought 'Staples!', just because they are replacing the east store, which was a nicer store than the Albert Street location. So...maybe it could be them building in a better location?

I’m surprised there still isn’t a Staples south in Harbour Landing or maybe the Southland Mall property.

The food court seating is a joke (as is Victoria Square's) as there are next to no tables for handicapped customers. Northgate has two tables that have actual, moveable, chairs. A disgrace in my opinion. My family can't eat there because of this 'omission'. There are two tables, which are always occupied by seniors who park their butts for several hours to visit with their coffee buddies. Because of this, we don't eat at Northgate (or in fact, go there) any longer.

I have been wondering the same thing. I don't know if they do enough business to support three stores in the city, but that would be ideal coverage. North, East, and South?

That’s what I was thinking. It would be nice tho to have some South coverage. I can’t remember if Staples is franchised or not?

Thank you!

Saskatoon has 3 locations so maybe a South Staples will happen sometime soon for Regina.

He should talk to the owners at Fresh & Sweet on the other side of the park. They went through that for a long time during the "beautification" project on Victoria Avenue.

A few months ago I mentioned a redevelopment project that would offer a unique experience to the city. Here it is:

Bloom, located at 3320 Pasqua Street (former Garden Centre) will be a mix of local retailers, an event space, all intertwined with patio spaces throughout.

That would be really cool! I like the concept.

Bloom

Thanks for posting this info, CCF

Great stuff! I wish them well. This is such an unusual piece of property (long and narrow) wedged between Lewvan and Pasqua. I am happy that they will be using the existing structures, especially the beautiful main building.

Would love Every Day Kitchen to have a second spot at this development. Even if it’s more of a food pickup area. My parents live on Hill Avenue so it would be awesome to have a craft brewery there and then to be able to walk home.
