A few weeks ago they tried some type of strip lighting in Turquoise & it was great. Now it looks like a ma & Pa job.

The light bar colour gives me Blade Runner vibes for some reason.

Did they fix it to look less like a string of light bulbs or is it still like that

The fog is just making it look like a single LED line, but it's still very much individual bulbs/LED circles when you drive past it. Very Price is Right. Just wish it had a little more height to it. 5 more floors would've made it look less stubby IMO.

The architect tried to get the developer to build to 24 stories, but the developer said that the crane they owned would build to 15-16 stories. That apparently was the determining factor in its overall height.

Damn, I guess renting a crane for that was the limiting factor? Would explain the difference in cladding as well. unfortunate.

Re: the lights. The LED's on 300 Main aren't long strips. They are individual light bars. But they just maybe are better and look like one long strip.

you're correct. I remember when they were building 300 Main, they were testing a couple of the bars that could change colours and do different patterns. Unsure if those light bars are still able to do that or if it's just set to the white it currently is, but I always wondered if they were able to change the colour of them for special occasions.

I think they are the new style permanent outdoor lighting such as Gem Lights or other brands that people are using on the houses.

Not sure if satire or serious

For real! Imagine the increase in profit from 9+ extra floors vs cost to rent a crane. At least an extra 55-60 units at 24 storeys vs 15.
C'mon!

I wonder what the cost benefit analysis that was done looked like... or if there was one at all.

^ tower cranes are $$. Foundation for a 24 storey building would be far more complex than what was built. Utilities, M&E become much more complicated ($$) as well.

They probably had some self imposed (i.e. not City bylaw required) limitations with the parkade as well. More units mean more parking spots.

It gives me 'my parents bought an LED strip and stuck it on their TV' vibes.

Yeah the render looked not great and the final result looks terrible overall. Russia-block looking garbage with temu lights. The details on top of the fins looks stark and out of place on the bare unpainted concrete.

I think the height is fine, what it needs is a few neighbouring buildings!

True! Mayfair, Assiniboine and River all need more height along the river. It's really nice to see buildings pop up when you're skating the river or running the trail in the summer. Would love to see more pop up.
