I'm feeling the game-changer aspects of this one. It's really going to do wonders for our evolving skyline. Keep the pics coming!!

This is my favorite graphic so far. It's one of the best illustrations IMO for showing how this will effect the skyline. It's significant, and from all directions.

Its going to dwarf the surrounding buildings and add some gleaming exterior which is lacking in that section. Look how small the Chase tower looks next to it. Although I really liked the original proposal for this spot, this may be one of my favorite additions to the skyline. And the 11 or 12 floors of parking look nicely blended in with the rest of the exterior. No cheap alternatives like...

I've noticed a phenomenon where I tend to like the towers that are oriented north/south more than the ones that are east/west.

Seaholm Residences > The Bowie

Northshore > 500 West 2nd

360 Condos > Ashton

The Monarch > Four Season Residences

JW Marriott > Fairmont

Colorado Tower > 5th & Colorado

Austin Proper > Third + Shoal

I think the only east/west tower I've favored the most so far has been the W Hotel & Residences.

Aloft is east/west if you like it.

The Avenue will be east/west as well (or maybe just a square, honestly).

Despite loving both, The Independent > Austonian is a good example of one E-W oriented tower being better than its N-S oriented peer... in my opinion.

I'm not a fan of the Aloft. I like to pretend it doesn't exist. It's in the "meh" group with Ashton and the Four Seasons Residences.

I LOVE it! If for no other reason than they didn't park it. Downtown is the one place where Austin's parking requirements don't suck and I'm always going to be a fan of the fact that they bit the bullet and built without layers of machine space.

Yeah, I kinda agree. I only dig the west facing side. That blank wall is pretty bad looking from 35.

come on Kev, the Four Seasons is FAR better than Aloft.

Their brand is pretty bland, but they did hire IM Pei for the 4Seasons NYC which is understated and elegantly SICK....so, maybe I shut up.

The Aloft looks good from the west walking down 7th. It's best side by far. Looks pretty neat from a northwest angle. From the north it's okay, from the east it starts to deteriorate and from the south it's WTF is that hideous wall!!! Don't care how they would have done it but they should have had more windows facing south period.

I love the fact that it has no parking. Though with projects like 405 Colorado and that other project with over 600SF of parking, downtown is taking two steps back for every step forward...

I like the north and west sides of the Aloft. I even like the east side of it. I like the two tone look and the effect the windows have of adding some detail. I just really don't like the color and I'm not a fan of the pattern on those panels. The best view of the building is the northwest corner.

About the Four Seasons Residences, I've just always thought that building looks unfinished. I can't get over how ugly the mechanical penthouses are, and the exposed balconies also look a bit unfinished being how exposed they are. More than anything, I wish they had done some kind of crown to conceal those mechanical penthouses. That building faces the river. It could have been a major contributor to the skyline.

I agree 100% about the Four Seasons Residences. They really should have built a crown lining the mechanical penthouses. One thing I'm glad they did was to remove those bright white lights that used to be on those blocky bumps that made no sense to have. Had they created a secondary setback crown they could have lit it around the outside.

I mean, I get why they didn't. They wanted the top of the building to be open air because that's where their pool is, but it still could have been a neat space with it being enclosed. And there I would imagine that at some parts of the day it's probably pretty hot up there. And then there's rain and winter.

I like the Aloft too. It's a great preview of what The Avenue will resemble - I hope more tall, narrow, parkingless buildings like that are built up on Congress and other areas downtown instead of massive hulking garages taking up an entire block with a pencil tower on top.

I dislike parking podiums, I also dislike blank windowless walls like the south side of the Aloft. But the other 3 sides are ok with the west side being the best. So I like 3/4 of this building. Other than a few noise complaints, the reviews from guests have been pretty good.

The site plan for the tower hasn't been approved yet. But I updated the status to Site Prep based on this photo in JoninATX's twitter link from about a week ago.

Long rumored. Now confirmed that Indeed signed a lease for 307k SF.

Awesome. That could have been one of the catalysts for the recent focus on office tower development.
