I'm actually amazed that they have been able to keep so much of the design from the May renderings, typically these get VE'd to death. What, no EIFS?!

And they have an enormous green wall, will be the largest in the state of Oregon. Thats no small feat!

If the curtain wall comes out half decent then I will be pretty happy with it, we don't get many highrise buildings built in our downtown proper.

Honestly, that's my biggest concern with it. Please, please PLEASE, please don't let the curtain wall look cheap.

As Abide mentioned above, I think they did improve some aspects of the west face of the building, along 3rd. But they seem to have taken some big steps backward too. Sigh.

I think I can live with this. I mean, the slanted transition looks a little weird, but the rest isn't terrible.

certainly much improved. way less schizophrenic. but I also have issues with how the slanted portion is handled. just looks clumsy, and has since day one. I would love to see it as looking like it has been carved, or eroded, away from the rest of the facade. Make the slanted area a different material and language.

sorta like this:

The building is mostly dark grey metal panel in a window wall system.

It looks better than the last version, for the most part. I hope the gray/brown panels don't end up looking drab. When your design starts making the World Trade Center building on Salmon look good, you know it's drab.

Latest drawings [PDF - 52.7 MB]. At a quick glance I don't see any changes?

Wait, so does this latest set of renderings mean that they aren't going to raze BOTH of the old buildings on that block?

No. Both the Lotus and Temple buildings are going. The office building on the Temple site is going through a separate design review.

Yes, really. Incredibly lame. I cannot fathom that the Temple building can be torn down in modern Portland. We've come so far over the last half century in our thinking to wind up right back where we started. The office project royally pisses me off. The loss of the Albion is less of a shocker, but the loss of the Lotus is very sad.

From what I have seen from the interiors of the building, I can unfortunately see it being torn down. I am actually surprised it has lasted this long.
