Nice update, Urbannizer. E 6th is closed today as they are assembling the tower crane for Arnold Phase II. Goodbye oil distribution company--hello homes and businesses!!

I had not been down E. 6th in about 9 months before driving down through last week. I was amazed at the construction. It's worth seeing in person.

I had the same experience a couple months ago. At that time it had been about year since I last drove down E. 6th. It was unrecognizable. It was in the evening, and it was very busy with a lot of foot traffic (as well as construction.)

Such an amazing transformation. Goodbye oil distribution companies, recycling plants, surface parking lots, abandoned strip malls, empty commercial space and hello all things good!

2406 Hidalgo

Site

Quote:
2406 Hidalgo may bear resemblance to a historic train platform, but it acts as a modern, efficient multi-use building. This new construction is positioned at a light rail crossroads in East Austin with views of incoming trains and downtown Austin. The scope of work includes 3,372 square feet of restaurant space, 28,261 square feet of professional office space, and all associated site improvements.

This kind of matches that

^^ I had to remind myself what this one is going to look like when done and stumbled across this website. Older photos than corvairkeith's update above, but some great shots of what the west-facing views will be like:

Hey, does anyone have any good aerial views of the current progress in East Austin? I have to live vicariously through all of you guys and wait for Google Earth's once per year (give or take) update of the satellite photos. Thanks!

I hope to be in Austin sometime in the spring so I look forward to seeing it all in person.

This is beyond epic! This HEB has been sad and tired for as long as I can remember. May it be reborn and the surface parking lot that drapes along it die a quick death.

hopefully this knocks something loose in Austin's collectively thick skull and ushers in a wave of similarly urbanized grocery stores more fitting of a city our size. the Hancock, Allandale, S Congress, and Riverside HEBs all appear to be ideal locations for similar treatment.

i had high hopes for the central Austin shopping center where 99 Ranch is going in with the original rumors of ground floor HEB with MF residential above. ultimately I believe that was shot down by the landowner (UT) not being interested in a long-term lease.

I don't think this is happening, at least not any time soon. They are currently doing a remodel, seems mainly cosmetic.

I believe they are making the front doors bigger and putting in a curbside operation.
