Zilkr on the Park (And yes it's caller Zilkr instead of Zilker.) Another fine Austin name tweaked to be more trendy.

Exclusive: Developer to turn dirt on 'affordable' apartments near South Lamar
By Jan Buchholz
Austin Business Journal
March 27, 2014

Quote:
PSW Real Estate is launching into new territory with the construction of a mid-sized apartment complex that will compete against more trendy and expensive developments along South Lamar Boulevard.

The 104-unit property, named “2505 Thornton Road,” will break ground this spring with vertical construction by summer.

[SNIP]

PSW officials told me that the Austin project is southeast of the intersection of South Lamar Boulevard and Oltorf Street along the railroad tracks. Construction will take about 18 months.

Looks like that affordable apartment complex (Skyview Studios) by Goodwill has been cancelled.

Goodwill to take over original Whole Foods Market site near downtown Austin

Austin Business Journal

Goodwill will continue to operate its store at 2800 S. Lamar Blvd. Last year the nonprofit tried to create an affordable housing development at that site in conjunction with Foundation Communities, but the deal fell apart when the necessary tax credits and funding did not materialize.
An earlier article about the project (with rendering) is here

The bike lane at the South Lamar Union is taking shape and should be installed soon!

When complete this feature will connect Treadwell and South Lamar in Austin through the complex and run behind the Alamo Drafthouse Austin.

In-N-Out may be headed to S. Lamar

Austin Business Journal
April 9, 2014

In-N-Out Burger may be coming to South Lamar, according to a site plan filed with the city of Austin.

The application, by Austin-based engineering firm Big Red Dog, was filed on March 14 with the final report due on April 30, the Austin American-Statesman reported. The site, at 3701 S. Lamar Blvd., is currently occupied by a Wendy's.
The article has a link to the documents filed with the city.

Is anyone else getting annoyed with those stupid Dos Equis ads? I hate them trying to cash in on Austin's popularity, like the one on Congress that says, "he keeps Austin weird all by himself." The one on Lamar, I think, says, "the bats come out to see him." It's real annoying.

I personally think they should bring back this billboard that used to be on S. Lamar.

Those units seem to be selling really fast at the 704. I bet once Lamar Union, Cielo, and Hanover opens all of them will be selling like hotcakes.

Lol just noticed the guys in the pic. I take it either they are friends of yours or they are just random people that happened to spot you photographing in their direction. The dude on the left looks like he's trying to throw up a gang sign LMAO.

^^They were random people. I told them I was taking photos of the construction, but that they were in the picture, too. They were happy.

The elevations are shown on pages, 12, 13, 14 & 15.

It's a long narrow lot that's basically between the Post South Lamar Phase 1 and South Austin Music/Saxon Pub/ Abbey's Printing.

I happened to notice the other day that just north of that Abbey's printing are three vacant shops. One of them was Tammy's Cleaners. I don't know what the other two were because all the signage has been removed. At any rate, these three business and the parking in front of them has all been fenced off.

You can see the three vacant shops and the fence I'm talking about in street view

Tammy's was the little white building with red trim. The two other vacant shops are to the left of Tammy's. Not sure what - if anything - is planned for that lot.

The Jack & Adam's shop sits between the Jack in the Box and Lee Barton Drive.

It looks like Jack & Adam's Bicycle's has now moved into the Cole Building. I passed by the Cole yesterday morning and there's signage up, the lights were on and there was merchandise in the store. The old store was at 1210 Barton Springs Rd. and on the city's emerging projects page, it shows a proposed development at that address that would include an 80-room hotel, 30 condos and an art gallery.

I wouldn't mind seeing that McDonald's torn down and replaced with something else, but like others here, I want Peter Pan to stay (as well as Butler Pitch & Putt.)

Agreed, the McDonald's is just so out of place, I'd love to see Peter Pan expand a little like was mentioned in the article.

I just love the "'We’re all a little baffled by why these properties were included within Auditorium Shores to begin with,' said Michael Simmons-Smith, a senior planner at the city of Austin."

That seems like it's a common theme in zoning discussions throughout the city

Site plan for In-N-Out on South Lamar. The address is 3701 South Lamar (at Panther Lane).

ftp://ftp.ci.austin.tx.us/ATD_AULCC/140703/PLANS/AULCC_SP-INOB%203701%20South%20Lamar_PLANS.pdf

It's funny, I was just thinking today how nice it would be to have one down south. We ate at the Airport one this morning.

I think someone (maybe you?) mentioned this one earlier. I believe it is where there is currently a Wendy's.

It was me that mentioned it in this post

Since the entrance to my complex is within 500 feet of the proposed In-N-Out burger, everyone who lives here got a notice from the City about it back in April.

I can't wait for it to open. As an aside, In-N-Out Burgers pay a pretty decent wage considering it's a fast food place ($10.50 an hour to start.)
