^Thanks for that. I'm going to assume that I'm safe to bring my phone, but it will suck if I have to part ways with it.

I may not bring it. But I won't be happy if I see other people with them!
If you look at the Spectator Guide (146 pages) http://www.vancouver2010.com/dl/00/26/87/lrg-print-spectatorguide-complete_80d-ow.pdf, for the Opening/Closing Ceremony at BC Place, Flash photography for personal use is allowed. The guide didn't mention anything about the type of camera. I guess if you only carry a small point and shoot camera and only small bag, then you can use the express line with much shorter lineup time.

Quote:
Spectators carrying no bags or small bags (no larger than 15 cm x 15 cm x 30 cm or 6 in x 6 in x 12 in) will move into the express line.
Spectators carrying larger bags will follow the standard line.

I just found an article from CTV which answered my question:

"While a notice sent to ticket holders warned them to leave cameras at home, cellphones with camera functions were allowed in. Once inside, some people were caught taking photos and warned to stop. "

Yes you're correct. Another FAQ from vancouver2010:

Can I take photographs or use my video camera at the venues?

Photography for personal use is permitted, but flash photography is not permitted at Canada Hockey Place, Pacific Coliseum, Richmond Olympic Oval, UBC Thunderbird Arena and The Whistler Sliding Centre. The use of broadcast or photographic equipment for commercial purposes is prohibited.

So no cameras on Wed night. Fri should be fine.

Regarding phones, I've got a camera on there too, but I've been getting through fine for my shifts...

When in doubt, read the FAQ in the spectator guide or online.

Well, unless you have a Japanese cellphone with a 12mp camera, like the new ones have, your 2MP pinhole cam doesn't really cut it as a camera.

That said, if people are Twittering during the ceremony, I'm going to kick them.

Anywho, my DSLR doesn't have flash on the body. So that was never an issue for me.

Oh another note, there *are* express lines, but apparently were not very well marked on Monday. The only signs I've seen then are the ones at the screening tent, which you probably can't see hundreds of meters away...

When in doubt, ask a blue jacket (they should have yellow arm bands, but doesn't matter) and make sure you're in the right line, since the express moves a lot faster.

Based on the spectator guide, flash light is OK for Opening/Closing Ceremony at BC Place.
Flash light is NOT ok in venues where athletes compete. I guess the reason is flash light may affect their eyesight.

The "big bag" line is for anyone carrying a bag over 12" x 12". What the hell are you carrying that's bigger than that? A full out backpack?

I guess they had to make it so all the girls don't have to have their purse searched, but, still

Well, some of us are students coming right from class...so, really have no option but to bring the big bag...

Note that a big bag is defined as anything bigger than 15 cm x 15 cm x 30 cm (6 in x 6 in x 12 in).

VANCO is expecting spectators to carefully study all 146 pages of the guide. The penalty of not following instructions can be confiscated items or denied reentry to the venue.

In a tiny corner at the back of a workshop office where I'm based at.

I'm pretty sure there is *no* reentry to any venue. If you decide to leave the secured grounds to grab a bite to eat at a nearby place, you can't come back in.

What I am wondering is, what if you have tickets to multiple events, that are back to back.

Are you expected to leave, and come back in through security? A couple of days I go to back to back games at GM Place.

How will they make sure freeloaders don't stay around ? I'd hide in the bathroom before a Canada game if I had to!

Hmm...good question. I'm pretty sure that you will be rescreened. Can I get back to you on that?

I can't confirm it since I haven't been up to the 2nd and 4th levels, but I've heard that there is food...but stuff like hot dog and coke for ~$10...

I am sure for security reason alone a venue will need to be cleared out after an event finishes.
