True, it might not have the nicest... ambiance... but the selection is good and the prices are great. I'll take it over No "Bring Your Flak Jakcet" Frills or FreshCo (which looks like it should be cheap, but isn't really). But seriously, the selection and quality at No Frills is seriously Third World.

Metro is nice, but a little pricey... same with Fortinos. I didn't mind Lococo's; seemed like a lower-tier Costco... which considering it's location, isn't too bad.

I'm interested to check out the new Nation's place.

From what I remember the No Frills near Tisdale was quite decent. Better selection than any Safeway in Thunder Bay.

Yes, it is better, IMO, than the one over by Ottawa St., but that is not saying much. I was unaware that there were Safeways in Ontario; I worked there, while in BC, for 13yrs... too funny...

As a geography student at McMaster University, I was devastated when I learned about the downtown core being a "food desert" and was immediately excited at the thought of having a grocery store in Jackson Square as it would bring rejuvenation to the haggard place, and support healthy active living in the core. After hearing of some delays, I was nervous, but after looking at these photos the Economic Development Office uploaded on Instagram, I'm quite pleased, and think that the store's focus on catering to all nationalities and food palates will be a success, in such a diverse environment. What do you guys think?

Yogurt bar.

Japanese cuisine.

Chinese cuisine.

Pizza/panini station.

Dishes from around the globe station.

Salad bar.

oh, so it's going to act as a second food court and as a grocery store.
It looks awesome.

I have a soft spot for hamiltons brutalist 70's "civic commons" architecture and a little creative retrofitting looks like it could work. There is still a lot of value in her bones. Jackson Square could be gentrified.

Damn, that's sexy. And the yogurt bar is a nice touch. Does Hamilton any such thing? Perhaps but I can't think of an example. Can't wait!

If you're talking about Yogurt Bars, I know of one in Stoney Creek. It's in the Battlefield Park, shopping plaza, next to Denninger's -- "CC Swirl's", is the name.

I like the subterranean aesthetic. Seems like something you'd find on the PATH.

I saw the Nations Fresh Foods sign going up on Bay St. the other day. The place looks great.

I think it's safe to say that Jackson Square has finally turned a corner for the better. An International Clothiers is also going in beside The Source, another fairly big name returning to Jackson.

In other Jackson Square news Hamilton Economic Development posted a pic of the The Works Opening Soon sign:

Passed the sign in a rush the other day. I think it's next door to the Anchor Bar.

How is that possible? Next door to the Anchor Bar is McDonalds on one side and nothing can really go in on the other side unless they expropriated the shoe store and art place in the Sheraton hallway.

Rumor I heard today is that the Nations grocery store opening is being delayed by an elevator worker's strike. No idea how much the date may be changing.
