The last time Rogers Place opened its doors to the public, fans braved frigid January temperatures for a look inside the new downtown arena. They also had to use their imaginations to get a sense of the finished product, since it was little more than a bare concrete bowl with a roof.
Four months later, about 950 workers are toiling 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to put the finishing touches on the arena in time for its debut — an open house Sept. 10.
“In January when people came in, I was afraid that just seeing the bones of the building that day that people might be underwhelmed, but there was a tremendous level of excitement that day and I can only imagine what the level of excitement will be when this building is turned on,” said Bob Black, executive vice-president of the Edmonton Arena Corp.
