Good to know. My thought is that they'd want to look at developing a taller, all Gables apartment tower, on that lot. I remember when Plaza Lofts wanted them to move it away from their balconies, one option was to maybe go taller. Are you aware of the height restrictions on that lot?

This project has several levels of below grade parking. It will require a lot of excavation. The shoring process was stopped prematurely

So you think the project is still on then?

There are two below ground parking levels according to the site plan.

Here is the text of my e-mail query to Hotel Zaza:

There is lots of online speculation (Skyscraperpage.com /Austin forum) regarding the lack of visible activity at the Austin construction site. Rumors are swirling that Zaza is no longer part of any development plans at that site. Local business press sometimes picks up story information from this Skyscraperpage forum. How about a press release or other statement explaining the lack of activity at the site since the "groundbreaking" a while back?

If they just changed owner there are issues with the approval process. Things like Licence Agreements have to be re-written, sometimes re-approved, and even sometimes brought before commissions to approve the changes. Changing owners is a big deal and can cause many hiccups in the approval process. Its not just whiteout the name and write in a new one. That too could delay the start or the change the plans some too.

I said a month or so ago that developers should be required to regularly update the public and the city as to the progress of their plan...Since the city has to provide services to this potential hotel, the city has to be informed

There was an update to a permit filing concerning utility work on March 13th. Nothing significant, but I don't think work has stopped for long.

Does that mean two vehicles were parked there?

Maybe they are using the same contractor as the library.

Meanwhile, the ZaZa brass never responded to my email. It has been several days now since I sent it. I guess they don't have an obligation to respond, but it makes you wonder.

If they were bought out, no one knows the status of this project, probably including the owners. Buyouts/mergers are almost always messy and it will take a while for things to get worked out including potentially resubmitting permits as was already mentioned.

Z Resorts Management, LLC was not bought out. Gables Residential was.

I have a source that contacted ZaZa via email and they actually replied to him. They said the opening had been pushed back from Q4 2016 to Q1 2017.

That video was awesome. What movie is that from? It seems familiar but I can't place it.
