ahh, I did not know that. and I'm sure it is nice inside. Edmonton seems to really support it's public library system (I remember walking residential streets (near Oliver? Garneau maybe? can't recall) and seeing homeowners having signs or placards that said 'I love EPL' or something similar)

The frame is not the problem with the Library. a reclad int he future can fix all the issues however

Great video of Ottawa's Airport O-Train station. We see the entrance from inside the airport itself, and thanks to nighttime lighting, inside the station from outside as well.

Great station, bad service (three train journey to downtown (Line 4, Line 2, Line 1)).

Scott Street Trench, the old Transitway about to be converted to rail, from the current terminus of Tunney's to Dominion, and beyond along the new Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway tunnel.

Richmond Tunnel, connecting the old Scott Street Trench Transitway to Lincoln Fields, a roughly 3 km gap that had no rapid transit service previously.

Lincoln Fields, once a major bus terminal in the Transitway days, by 2025 it will be a massive three track transfer station between buses and Lines 1 and 3 of the O-Train. The station will include washrooms and retail.

Algonquin and Iris. Mostly Transitway conversion with the exception of Algonquin Station itself, which will be built in a roughed-in tunnel box installed over a decade ago when Algonquin College's trades building was built over the original Transitway Baseline Station.

Yup. 12 minute frequency at the airport. Transfer three stations further at South Keys where the Line 2 train should be waiting, and transfer again at Bayview to Line 1 or 3 to Downtown a few stations east.

They have this. It's the 97 bus from Hurdman Station. And it takes 20 mins from Hurdman Station to the airport. It will be faster and fewer transfers than this double transfer stub of a train.

They cheaped out. They didn't want to build larger platforms at the at the airport to accommodate a larger train. And they didn't want to build the track capacity to interline all the way to Bayview. Anybody from East of Rideau will stick with the bus.

I'd say if you're spending money to build something slower and less convenient than what already exists then it doesn't work lol. Sounds like a case of people wanting the status symbol of airport rail even without much real utility.

You're pretty close to the mark. It has utility for those coming from the West. But overall, it's going to be a suboptimal experience.

Charitable guess is that they wanted to put something in that they can build on. Cynical guess is that they just want to say they have rail to the airport and don't really care about substantive details. Which honestly would not be that unusual for Ottawa.

I have a feeling the Hurdman-Airport bus will likely be retired once Line 2 and 4 (re-)open.

Great way to encourage more driving to the airport. Nobody from the east end is going to put up with an hour long transit ride and three transfers to get to the airport.

This helps explain my disgust.

They should alternate lines 2 and 4 till they can double track the tunnel to make it make more sense. I wonder if that will be part of the unfunded Phase 3.

Or tunnel under the airport to merge line 2 and 4 into a single line, and skip the two stops in the middle of nowhere. Not sure what's the point of having Leitrim and Bowesville? But that would be much more costly I guess...

Going under the airport might be a security issue. Imagine some terrorist sneaking in when the President of the USA, or any other world leader is coming to Ottawa?
