I don't think the Continental will be at all affected by the LRT whatsoever. This article talks about 1190 Richmond which is out by Lincoln Fields right by the tunnel portal. Their complaints are likely coloured by the construction noise they're currently exposed to.

This makes me laugh though:

LRT construction: Detour for western end of Richmond Road to begin Sunday, through 2023

Residents and motorists who use the westbound Richmond Road, between New Orchard and McEwen avenues, are alerted that the strip will be closed for Stage 2 LRT work starting on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 6 a.m.

The closure will remain in place until the end of 2023.

Westbound motorists and cyclists will be rerouted to Ambleside Drive, New Orchard Avenue and then back to Richmond Road.

Detour signage will be in place while the closure is in place, the City of Ottawa advised Wednesday.

During construction, pedestrian access to businesses will remain open at all times on Richmond Road, and residents and visitors are encouraged to continue to support Richmond Road businesses.

Another photo of the Richmond/Byron tunnel. Looks like they're getting ready to pour another section out by Cleary, which I would imagine would be used to build a road detour over while they dig up Richmond where the tunnel crosses over from the Parkway.

Does anyone have a link or information/renderings of what the new Bryon Linear park will look like?

I see the top of the tunnel looks to be roughly inline with the existing bedrock so the overburden should be the same.

I'm just wondering how tree planting will work if any. I'm not much of an arborist.

This was the consultation document, not sure if there is a updated plan yet. Note: does not reflect moving the station from Cleary to Sherbourne.

Thank you. My GoogleFu was not up to the task. I would imagine there will be as many trees planted as shown in the document and more importantly actually maintained.

Byron park previously was kind of a dump. Lots of conifers with giant circles of no grass under them from all the pine needles dropping. All the benches were bent and twisted, unlevel aging garbage cans etc. No curbs and just dirt and gravel shoulders with cars parking haphazardly. All the corners were muddy ruts from cars turning in to sharply. It's amazing that people fought its redevelopment, there is no way possible that it won't be improved.

I suppose you could argue the stations could be covered to maintain continuity but I would like to have faith that the walkable portion next to the open trench will do the trick.

I'm disappointed the stations won't be underground, at least Sherbourne which was promised to be underground and across the street until the winning bidder was unveiled.

That would certainly be an improvement. Any sort of covered structure. Doesn't need to be fully underground, it can be a roof with half walls.

Thanks for the update but am I the only one who isn't that impressed with the progress so far? The trench isn't done, most of the tunnel isn't even in progress, no tracks, stations vary from mid-construction to not even started...

You would expect for such a big project to have hundreds of people working on the line at all times but the sites seem fairly quiet with perhaps a dozen or so guys working here and there. Seems strange...

The last I read about it the western segment is a year behind schedule - originally it would be done 2025... but now 2026 probably?
