From the project twitter today:

In this photo from March 14th, several steel sections have been installed for the E Columbia multi-use path overpass!
This new overpass will make it easier for pedestrians & cyclists to travel between @New_Westminster & @CityofSurrey

Very cool that we'll have four (4!) grade separated ped/bike bridges, plus the improved Royal Ave overpass on the north side. Huge improvement for active transportation in the area. And a great place to make these improvements, with both the BC Parkway and Central Valley Greenway intersecting here.

@CityofSurrey
Crews are using heaving equipment to deconstruct this part of the bridge, starting with the bridge deck, followed by girders and columns

Took me a long time to bike to the south side via Port Man Bridge (because taking SkyTrain would be too easy), but it was well worth it, since there was decent progress made on the south side.
Columbia Street is now open

They also added still girders connecting multiusepathway bridge t the rest of the pathway

On the south side they made great progress. They removed about 10 old bridge spans, clearing the way for HWY 17 off ramp.

This is where the missing girder will go to complete HWY 17 off-ramp, previously obstructed by old bridge

HWY 17 off-ramp - they poured some section with concrete already!

nice, I was wondering why the Columbia exit at the north end had been closed off recently, that new overhead crossing was getting done. Thanks for the updates, I m surprised at the progress being so quick.

Once bridge converted to 6 lanes, they will add multiuse pathway to the edge of the current bridge to line up with this concrete approach

There’s currently a fire on the Surrey side approach behind the sheet pile shown in Lexus’ photo below. I’m guessing the geofoam is what’s burning, hopefully it won’t require too much reconstruction.

It's being used in that recent picture, they wouldn't take it down if it's still needed.

I remember some comments regarding rough pavement on the bridge, now scheduled for final layer of pavement next weekend:

“ Weekend closure of the stal̕əw̓asəm (Riverview) Bridge

April 17, 2026

From Friday, April 24 at 9 p.m., to Monday, April 27 at approximately 5 a.m., the stal̕əw̓asəm (Riverview) Bridge will be closed in both directions for crews to complete top lift paving works on the bridge deck.”
