For those who would like to listen to the music which was played at the Biltmore Hotel by the Early Thirties, I've found out for the first time an orchestra with the mention « Los Angeles Biltmore Hotel Orchestra ». The picture on the video will make you think of Otis Criblecoblis' avatar... Good program !

There's at least two old (very modest) hotels being rehabbed into new hotels at Selma and Wilcox. That area is anchored by the beautiful Hollywood Citizen News building (1930)and Claud Beelman's US Post Office (1937) for the WPA.

First, the 1926 hotel on the sw corner of Selma and Wilcox (next door to Citizen News), is being rehabbed into the first Mama Shelter US location, designed by Philip Starck:

The Gilbert Hotel (1925), across from the Citizen News building, looks almost ready to open. Those signs need work though:

The Mark Twain Hotel, across from the Post Office, seems to forever be on the verge of a major rehab, but nothing yet:

Half a block east from Wilcox and Selma, a new Dream Hotel is being built behind the neo-Georgian Marion Building (former home of the Spotlight bar).
It's reported it will have a rooftop jungle, maybe with monkeys.

Your post caused me to consider shopping the neighborhood for Badger Tires at 1553 North Cahuenga. Looks like I am about eighty years too late. The same address now appears to house art galleries.

This building is on the NE corner of Pico Blvd. and Fox Hills Drive. The 20th Century-Fox Studio, formerly the Fox Film Corporation Studio, is in the background to the right.

Let's get a closer look at that bench. Fox Film Corporation merged with 20th Century Pictures in 1935 to form 20th Century-Fox, so perhaps that's why this old Fox bench is out on the sidewalk. I think the text under Fox Film Corporation is Fox Movietone Studio:

In these next two January 2015 views, 10275 looks vacant. Next door, 10271 used to be the Los Angeles Rams' offices. It certainly looked vacant the last time I checked, although web searching indicates it's still owned by the Rams. Just a few years ago, it still had old Rams stuff scattered around the first floor:

By far the clearest/sharpest photograph of the early Court House that I have ever seen. I imagine it was taken the same day in 1899 as the Detroit Photographic Co. panorama photos, posted previously by MichaelRyerson.
