If only it represented movin' on up on The Jeffersons vs a new height standard for people warehousing. Not saying not to rejoice in Canada's still booming people warehousing industry accumulating record public debt despite also gobbling up nearly every cent of venture capital.

Cranes deserves the SSP Unsung Hero Award for his ongoing contributions. Keeping us up to date on all the new developments, tons of skyline shots and he keeps on going despite the near always negative reaction to the pics shared (but not him personally of course).

I appreciate seeing what's going on, for better or for worse - it's a good reminder to avoid some of these podium disasters for sure, but there is also some promising development underway. Not to mention all Canadian cities have pockets of poor developments from the past or currently.

Carry on Cranes - looking forward to your posts now and into the future!

The podium is nasty however superficial compared to the real estate. It's over 500 units with 450 square foot one bedrooms and 500 square foot one bedrooms + dens selling for roughly $1000 a square foot in downtown Kitchener. Any market correction from international abandonment will start at a very high value meaning it will bottom out at a very high level for an uber abundance of studio apartments setting the precedence for decades to come.

The high lot coverage with minimal setbacks is a non issue given the sheer height and the slim chance surrounding properties will be developed to the same heights anytime soon. No matter, this isn't urbanism in the sense of quality but urbanism in the sense of quantitative statistical exuberance often expressed by x number of people that will be added to the neighbourhood.

With more (possible) tariffs , BOC rate cuts and likely more demand-side housing policy from Carney, I anticipate capital will accelerate in moving from productive companies and fixed income/GICs and into inflation hedges like precious metals and flood into REITs for income.

Im calling it now. Storage REITs are the future of Canada's private sector. For storage of wealthy boomers cabernets / sauvignon blancs and underemployed gen Z wantrepreneurs. We'll have the world's tallest storage skyscraper.

From hoggytime on Skyrise. Looking down Saint-Rédempteur in Hull towards Terrace de la Chaudière (major overhaul and re-clad) with Claridge Hintonburg in Ottawa between the TdlC towers. The three floor tower u/c to the left will be a 30 or so floor tower.

It's Ottawa that fits every other major city into it.

Perspective is everything - I used to think the CN tower was tall, but now I see it barely beats out an ordinary ladder. . I also enjoy the Edmonton pics - I like these aerial shots that are focused on a section of downtowns as you get a pretty good idea of the buildings in the area plus a sense of the streetscape and neighbourhood. Not as sexy as skyline shots but more informative if that makes sense.

Speaking of which I stumbled across this today, looks like one of the three remaining movie theatres in downtown Victoria is up for sale. Who knows, the Odeon Theatre may still remain open for years, much like the Capitol 6 which is kitty corner to this and has an office development in the pre-leasing stage.

"Attractive OCP zoning, allowing for 6.00x FSR (150,162 sf) and 24 storeys of high-rise mixed-use development area."

source

Finally, if you're viewing this on a phone or tablet, rotate it - well worth it for this drone skyline video of Victoria:
