For that matter, why did the FoL and other opponents complain about the improvements too? When a design competition took place for the front lawn portion, it was a referred to as a sham and its cost was used to illustrate what a "bad deal" the project was. So no matter which direction the city took, they were wrong. And yet you poor nobles souls are perceived as being anti-development at Lansdowne. Imagine.

So if you're not being listened too, maybe it's a matter of your own credibility. Guys who, for example, hurl insults at construction workers while rattling chain link fences don't give off the vibe that they're going to be the voice of reason, so their words don't carry much weight. Same with megaphones, duct taping your kids' mouths, that sort of thing.

All so boring. Anybody with anything new about the construction? Any word yet on the movie theatre (I assume construction has not been interrupted?)

No word yet, but construction has continued uninterrupted. Empire has long-term lease for the building, so any change in their business strategy shouldn't affect the construction schedule. The most likely scenario is that they sell the lease to another company. They would want the building built in order to do that.

My understanding is that all of the buildings (including the office building) get built on schedule regardless of the tenant situation. Which is good, as presumably it will be easier to get tenants once the place is up ready.

Since beating dead horses and other mammals seems to be the trend on this thread lately, anyone care to stir up the old amalgamation of Ottawa debate? Maybewe can discuss the location of the LRT? Or better yet, the best location for the Corel Centre? Anyone? Anyone????

Far more interesting is whether Ottawa can afford the Civic Center Arena. It was a hot issue in a mayoralty election in the mid-60"s.

Much as i would love these to be actual season ticket commitments, unfortunately they are just 25$ registrations for a "spot in line".
But they are certainly a strong indication of ticket sales to come.

The townhouses are now listed on he Web site. They are no longer on Holmwood but are at the base of the Rideau tower now. Considering they cost about a million (including HST), they're not very impressive.

Are you sure the Holmwood towns aren't coming as part of a later phase? They are shown on the Vibe render, perhaps they just aren't released yet?

here is a link to the Rideau floorplans.... Scroll to the bottom for the townhomes. I was wonder why there would be towns facing Bank instead of retail, but they are actually against a pedestrian path as the bridge has started rising at that point.

Unless something changes, there will be townhomes on Holmwood at a later phase. I'm guessing the completion of those towns by 2015 aren't as essential as the rest of the project.

They have probably left the town homes for last on purposed. Based on the sales of other condo sites that included a town home component, they take the longest to sell (mainly due to their price). If they don't sell quickly, I wouldn't be surprised if the town homes were changed into smaller suites to lower the price and move them quicker.

This is often the case, but with the Glebe generally and Holmwood Avenue specifically, I don't think there will be a problem convincing people to buy them. they will fit in pretty nicely with the pattern on the other side of the street, and will feel the most residential of any of the homes at Lansdowne.
