And, ultimately, what do you expect will be developed there?

kind of depends on time frame and how the rest of the city develops
if we're talking a 5-10 yr delay something simular to atlantic station
if we're talking 10-20 yr delay i'm thinking large condo tower

Thanks for suffering so many questions; just one more: which of the above would you prefer?

Why? It'll bring 130 more students living downtown. I think it's a good first step to greek housing.

the sooner they do something the better as far as i'm concerned
in terms of concepts i thought the original concept proposed
was to small i would like to see something thats closer
to atlantic station in terms of how big the buildings are
of course one could argue putting 15-20 story buildings out
there is unjustified but i would argue its better than cox
building two 15 story buildings in sand springs/alpharetta

I'm not sure why you think this; this is an extra 139 students adding to the foot traffic around that area, and an extra 139 kids buying from the restaurants and shops in downtown (and further pushing Downtowns economy). This is 9 townhouses (a relatively urban style building, though granted not a skyscraper) built on what was a parking lot. And for the university (which really is an integral part of Downtown), this is a huge step in becoming a traditional school with the ability to attract thousands more students as well as better compete with other research universities in the state (and nation).

In short, i think this is a bloody good thing for downtown to have.

I agree completely. Although I would have preferred for the design to have implemented stoops and doors fronting Edgewood Ave, it's really not bad. Also, the architecture is sort of 'meh,' but it gets the job done.

The effect of having another 139 students on campus at all times really weighs out these minor flaws.

Deal to redevelop GM Doraville: $110 million

New Broad Street's website for the Doraville Transit Oriented District (TOD)

Doraville MARTA Station is at the bottom of the design, so pedestrians would cross the interstate into DisneyLand, I mean Doraville

love those crayon renders
also doesnt look like this concept is modular just one big
redevolopement phase how feasable is that? or are these
renders of the masterplan as seen 20yrs from now

edit:nevermind
heres the disclaimer from the developers website
The following renderings are conceptual only, depicting very preliminary ideas about possible design aspects of the proposed Transit Oriented District in Doraville, Georgia. All designs and amenities are subject to change, and inclusion of various amenities and features is neither warranted nor guaranteed.

I agree with the design being a bit meh, but i'll live. The building next to those (i believe it belongs to Georgia Power?) is a really fancy old looking building. I would have loved for state to build the townhouses in the same way as that, old and grand looking. I have yet another romantic idea that state could buy that building and turn it into a frat house, and the other building across the street on Auburn with the big columns and turn that into one (as its in a sort of Greek style). But It'll never happen.

DeKalb kills GM project
maybe New Broad Street is bluffing about needing county
money
but if they're not, the gm site is going to sit empty for a while

Exclamation

Pessimistic Observer beat me by a few seconds. So much for DeKalb becoming a destination

Edit #2: Atlanta Business Chronicle's article:

GM Doraville, New Broad Street deal dead

"Kill?" "Dead?" Why so serious?

Does anyone have any insight - political, financial, or otherwise - as to why Doraville shot this down? While I do agree that this proposal didn't necessarily WOW me, it seems it would be better to have something other than a huge brownfield sitting there for the next decade...
