I really, really need Henry Han to swoop in here with a mega update to his original rendering from a couple of years back. There's so much new stuff in the pipeline . . . I'm really impatient to see a view that has some totality to it . . . . because, it's completely true, our soon-to-be skyline is heading in the "iconic" direction, amazingly fast.

I mean, we have at least 15 towers in one stage or another of development -- from 6X, which is close to topping out, down to the Hanover/OCH project, which is still wrestling the city for approval. And I think we all have a grasp of the speculative blocks that could have game-changing announcements in the next year or two. Anyway. Henry Han, if you're out there . . . time to get to work!

Also with those 400+ footers starting to pop up in the area between 11th and MLK, as well as 300 footers now in West Campus, the skyline is gonna really look beefy from that angle!

we have like a 50% shot of our topped out top 10 looking like this by jan 1 2026. 8/10 of these are not topped out. and only one i wouldn't bet on being ready by then is 80 RR.

For US, Austin will be a shoo-in top 10 skyline and in the conversation for top 5. crazy times.

Yeah I think when this current boom is said and done it'll be in the Philly/Seattle/Atlanta/Dallas tier, which is extremely impressive. Honestly might even be an LA competitor if we're talking downtown vs downtown. If someone would have told me Austin was gonna look like this back when I moved to TX in 2007 I would have said they were crazy lol.

What about for us who moved here before 2000? That was before Frost and Comerica. Nothing tall had been built for over a decade and we used to comment how undersized the skyline was for a city the size of Austin.

If all of these happen, this is what the avg. height of the 10 tallest buildings of the major Texas skylines would look like:

Houston: 815 ft
Austin: 751 ft
Dallas: 729 ft
Fort Worth: 439 ft
San Antonio: 397 ft (440 ft counting TOA)
El Paso: 255 ft

That's a pretty incredible jump considering Austin's currently at 558 ft (not including 6xGuad since it's not complete yet).

We have buildings existing and scheduled from 100' - 800' and then to 1000' but nothing in the 900' range. We need one just to satisfy my OCD.

Crazy - I noticed there was no lake for Town Lake in that shot. Longhorn Dam was built a year later in 1960.

Correct, the Colorado riverfront was scrubland.
My parents bought a new built house on Elmhurst Drive about two blocks south of where that photo was taken… Most everything on Riverside east of Parker Lane was pasture or scrub….. except for the Austin Country Club

From the last image I saw, isn't 6xG now the tallest building in Austin? Looks like it's slightly past The Independent now.

I didn't include it in the average because I only used completed buildings, but I'm pretty sure you're right about it being tallest now.

I think it doesn't really count as a building until it gets a Certificate of Occupancy and legally goes from an active construction site to a building.

It's officially over the 700' mark. Fun fact, Austin now has surpassed New Orleans & Denver in height.

Without showing my age, when I started UT in 78, the city council in Austin was against any building of height. They were a bunch of hippies that wanted nothing to do with growth. They even had some at the state legislature that agreed. A building taller than the Cap. was out of the question. They said it belonged to Texas and the view should be protected. I never thought a new building over 200 feet would be approved. Council Lady Sally Shipman was a big driver behind this.

Sweet! I was definitely in awe driving down MoPac going north seeing this baby peak ABOVE the independent. That was so awesome to see. Go Austin!
