Hopewell Rocks, yes, and, if I recall correctly, the Roosevelt Campobello International Peace Park on Campobello Island (history conscious Americans crossing the bridge from Eastport ME to visit the FDR "cottage").

Makes sense. The second one is essentially an American attrition that just happens to be in Canada. And it’s barely even in Canada at that. I wonder what the 4th biggest is.

Found the link:

#1 - Fundy National Park (212,000)
#2 - Hopewell Rocks (208,000)
#3 - Magnetic Hill Zoo (200,000)
#4 - Roosevelt Campobello (189,000)

I'm really surprised and happy that Moncton Zoo beat out St. John despite the fact that the latter has cruise ships docking in.

I was thinking about my least favourite interchanges in the province, and Rte 128/Homestead/Pacific Jct came to mind. I'm not even a big roundabout fan but one could work here quite well. Turn the westernmost bit of 128 into a cul de sac for the little industrial facility and get rid of the Old Rte 128's little connector to the new one. Maybe reconnect Old Berry Mills Rd to the main road below the tracks too. This would be a great western terminus to a twinned 128.

Zack St could run as a service road from Great Northern Auctions maybe as far as Horsman Rd.

Further east on 128, that weird little isolated suburb should have its Jonathan St entrance realigned to Edinburgh Dr along the south bank of Jonathan Creek. Maybe connect it to Lady Russell St from the little stub called Community Ave too. Not a big fan of one entrance-one exit suburbs.

These, plus perhaps extending Checker Dr to Debrisay Ave (to remove the private drives on 128) would leave 128 with enough space to double the lanes, and only 3 signalized intersections (Zack/Bill Slater, Horsman, and Edinburgh/Jonathan), with no private driveways. You'd 'just' need to widen the TCH underpass and everything from Homestead to Wheeler would be 4 lanes and controlled access. Doesn't fully solve Killam but it would help.

Removing driveways and consolidating the number of crossings is a good idea, especially for safety. The real issue in that area is the stretch between Horseman and Millennium though, and I can't see how adding more capacity upstream would do anything but make that area worse. Berry Mills/Killam at Wheeler just isn't safe with the speed and volume of traffic it gets. It's dicey making a right turn westbound onto Berry Mills off Wheeler, let a lone all the lefts.

I really like josh_cat_eyes's suggestion for a roundabout and realignment of the ramps.

I'm well aware of the issues of induced demand, but I really do think a second westbound lane between Edinburgh and Horseman is justified too.

Wholeheartedly agree.

And, yes, formally making Berry Mills into a limited access arterial is long overdue.

Dispersion of traffic volume by eventually extending Horsman southbound as far as St. George, and possibly Salisbury Road would help too. We need a western equivalent of Dieppe Blvd as a new north/south axis arterial route.

You'd have to build a pretty serious overpass over the rail yard to connect Horsman to St George, right? Even to get to DeLong you gotta cross a rail line underneath transmission lines... presumably you wouldn't want that crossing at grade.

There already is a plan to extend Horsman to Delong Drive as part of an expansion of the MID West Industrial Park.

This includes building an overpass over the CNR mainline . I believe work is going to commence on this next year.

I agree that creativity will be necessary to extend Horsman south to St. George, but, I imagine something can be worked out, probably including a second overpass, and perhaps a reconfiguration of the neck area of the hump yard.

The connection to St. George via Horsman is, in my opinion, necessary. Delong is a side street connecting to Edinburgh, and does not provide a direct enough route to downtown to act as a satisfactory diversion for traffic flow from the northwest end of the city. St. George however does go directly to the downtown.

I had missed that a couple pages back, sorry. What about connecting DeLong to Wheeler and widening it? The only business you'd disrupt is a gas bar, and you could even go across Wheeler. The wedge of land between BMHS and Wheeler isn't parkland AFAIK.

It's all parkland around BMHS. The school is surrounded by Centennial Park.

Ah, I thought this PID was Centennial: https://paol-efel.snb.ca/paol.html?v=1.0.37&lang=en&pan=06042343

And this was just vacant land, as labeled by PAOL: https://paol-efel.snb.ca/paol.html?v=1.0.37&lang=en&pan=03530274

Large subdivision planned for the west end of Salisbury Road, beyond the Fair Haven Funeral Home and cemetary.

Locator Map

Subdivision Plan

Quote:
An application to rezone the lands located on the north side of Salisbury Road, between Camel Street and Llangollen Road, from R2 (Two Unit Dwelling) to RM (Residential Mix) and P1 (Community Use).

The rezoning will accommodate a new residential subdivision with a variety of housing styles.

The development will include 150 new dwelling units, consisting of townhouses, semi-detached housing and single- unit dwellings.
The application states a "variety of housing types", including SFH, but, looking at the subdivision plan, all I see is duplexes and townhomes.

I'm not sure where I read it now (maybe when it went to council last month?), but this subdivision was originally approved years ago for single-family homes. The developer paused work but has come back with a denser proposal.

The "for sale" sign on that portion of Thrive's "Village at Twin Oaks" project that lies north of Holland Drive has disappeared.

There are two possibilities:

1) - Thrive has had second thoughts, and no longer intends to sell this land.
2) - A sale has been completed.

I the absence of a "sold" sign, I think the former is more likely.

They have started construction on the second building of the new nursing home complex off of wheeler behind Canadian tire. There is a mini tower crane erected.
They have also clear cut a large portion of land that I don’t recall being part of their site plan, so not sure what the potential use will be for that portion of the property.

There is also a mini tower crane off of mountain road somewhere north of wheeler. I could see it today as I was turning on to wheeler from mountain but didn’t have time to go see what it was for. Any ideas?

Hey now, as a proud Canadian AND someone who grew up on Campobello AND had half my family working at the park... I can place a shameless plug to RCIP. Besides the Roosevelt Cottage, the park has a ton to offer, the natural area rivals any park in the province in scenery, it might just not be as big.

I love Campobello. If there was a reliable year round connection to the rest of the country, I would consider having a property there.

I find the Roosevelt International Park very interesting. I think it a little strange however that the uniforms of the park rangers are so American looking.

I discovered the real (third) possibility - The for sale sign got blown over and was covered with snow.
