If we want to discuss the motion, I applaud it, its about time. However it has NO bearing on this application in its current form, or frankly in a future form if this MOTION was created and turned into a Zoning Amendment to the Zoning Bylaws.

A. This is NOT within 400m of main transit route.
B. This is not within 800m of any conceivable future rapid transit service.
C. The motion that is currently going before council for Vote, keep in mind this is a motion to DIRECT STAFF NOT Zoning BYLAWS.
D. IF this site for some odd reason fell within the direction of this MOTION it would be limited to 4 Stories, NOT 5 as proposed.
E. I'd refer you to the City of Regina OCP of which this neighborhood is not noted as a core urban neighborhood highlighted for densification.
F. 5 Story luxury condos are NOT the definition of Missing Middle Housing
G. IF this application was submitted on the knowledge of this motion going forward and somehow providing the ability to mass approve projects like this that would only add fuel to the rumor fire.
Its a school field away from the number 12 bus route, not sure what is considered "main" but its a 15 min max ride to downtown, usually more like 10. I don't think I've ever seen these called luxury condos but apartments, where are they being advertised as luxury condos?

It is annoying how these stories always end up being about the people at the open house rather than focusing on the details of the open house. CBC has a story that is even less informative.

If I had looked closer at the rendering of the Communitree I would have seen it isn't getting painted, the color was from panel inserts which have now been added.

Also noticed construction started on the next phase of the retail beside the 711 on Buckingham. Just piles at the moment. From the developer website it looks like a Subway and Pharmacy going in there.
https://www.thewinchestergroup.ca/welcome-woodland

Some utility work underway north of Kaufman Avenue to add another road. Road build itself will likely be next year. Last time I was near the east end of Buckingham they were installing storm drain pipes. For the past year there has been a hole were Buckingham and Green Turtle will meet so they are probably going to close that gap.

The report speculates if Regina’s economy continues on its current path, more than 62,000 new jobs will be created by 2026. Provincially, that number is estimated at 135,000.
https://leaderpost.com/news/local-ne...matched-skills
helping fill year-over-year employment growth which saw 1,167 new positions added in Regina last year. Approximately 60 per cent of the entire province’s net migration between 2016 and 2020 settled in or around Regina, according to the report.
But, on the horizon are projects like the Cargill and Viterra canola crush facilities, and the new joint agriculture complex from FCL and AGT Foods. While expected to create a job boom and deliver significant economic return, these megaprojects are also likely to add to the pressures on Regina’s available workforce, said Lane.
Is the city booming according to the article it is, but is it

From the article:
The report attributed this to a “noticeable gap” between the needs of employers, the local job market and the skills of the current workforce, both employed and searching.
In other words, the employers aren't offering wages/compensation high enough to get workers. Who wants to bet the provincial government tries to help out by bringing back some version of the Temporary Foreign Worker program, rather than just have the private market respond properly in raising wages?

Murray Mandryk: Public servants run amok creates REAL mess in Regina
REAL is $17.2 million in the hole and most famous 'moment' you have created for Queen City is the aborted 'Show us your Regina' campaign.
You don’t expect this. And, frankly, Regina taxpayers shouldn’t be expecting this or tolerating it.

Regina city council this week passed a 5-4 motion in which one option was to perhaps consider dissolving REAL, which is responsible for operating the Brandt Centre and Mosaic Stadium and hosting the Canadian Western Agribition and Queen City Exhibition.
Some might see this as a stunning measure, but what’s probably more stunning is that four members of council — including Regina Mayor Sandra Masters — actually remain unconvinced that some such drastic measure is necessary.

REAL has accumulated a $17.2-million debt; according to the MNP report before Regina city council on Wednesday, it’s not financially self-sufficient. It will continue to lose money for the foreseeable future.

It’s also being audited by the federal government over a $7.5-million grant from the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy it secured during COVID-19.
Why is

They’re talking about previous city councils not doing anything for infrastructure in this mayor is doing the exact same thing where are those new developments for downtown another big lie

Looks like a 19-unit rental housing project is coming to 1510 College Ave.

That's been an empty lot for a while. Any idea how tall it is planned to be?

I was looking at the aerial photography and saw that it can be opened in Google Earth, which in turn let me see that there is imagery in Google Earth from September of this year. That SaskPower building at the back of their lot is huge. I thought the imagery was updated for the entire city, but its just a narrow stripe that happens to encompass the GTH stopping part way through the Loblaws warehouse. Google Maps also shows the same imagery.

Full size: https://i.imgur.com/uSpzw5L.jpg

The grid road I was taking pictures from is on the left, it was muddy this week so I turned around the other day.

I also noticed the land cleared while laying pipelines for gas and water was visible: https://i.imgur.com/9aAS8HR.jpg

This kmz file will load the April aerial photos in Google Earth (but it is very slow). https://opengis.regina.ca/arcgis/res...l/mapImage.kmz

Probably posted ages ago but this PDF has detailed site layout pictures for the Cargill plant. The 4 last page even indicates what is stored in each of the tanks. The big concrete ones are for canola meal, not raw seed. https://pubsaskdev.blob.core.windows...2BProposal.pdf

The plan is to make the city centre more dense, address the gaps in middle housing in neighbourhoods, cut some housing-related red tape for some applications and support the conversion of non-residential buildings to residential use.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saska...sity-1.7035758
Only thing that’s getting more dense are the city counsellors not all of them but some of them
