I filmed a few clips yesterday on my way to Bonavista.

Here's a foggy drive on the TCH on the uploads outside of St. John's.

Another clip, this time in Whitbourne. Whitbourne was one of the first interior communities on the island. It has a strip of gas stations along the TCH and has successfully fought against twinning the highway any farther. They don't want to lose the business.

Climbing from a valley back to the uplands, then down through a rock cut to the next valley.

THEY'RE the reason?? I'll burn each and every one of them down if it means we can get a decent 4-lane highway extended westward

Well, for that pocket, yeah. It's twinned around Corner Brook as well. I believe on the west coast it's just cost/justification.

St. John's to Clarenville and Port-aux-Basques to Gros Morne should definitely be twinned, though. Lots of traffic on those portions.

lol another video

Highway 401 at night through Toronto.

Normally I put annotations and whatnot in, but I thought this time it would be better without so you can take it all in.

That one was awesome. Night driving is so pretty on proper highways.

*****

Funny FB post this morning. It seems traffic is still bad commuting from the suburban town of Paradise to St. John's:

It is like a different world driving in Ontario compared to here. Holy fuck, I have never experienced so many sniveling gutless pukes behind the wheel in all of my life as I have in Calgary. In Ontario, people pass... and merge onto a highway correctly... and go the speed limit! Or faster even! In Calgary... 3 lanes, all going the same speed, no one passing, all driving under the speed limit. This is a beyond regular occurrence. It is enough to give someone a rage heart attack!

How would you describe the everage speed in Alberta for a Rural and/or urban Expressway of 100km/h ?

In the province of Québec, Peoples tend to rarely go over 120... it's mostly between 110 and 120.

Winnipeg was bad too. You had to be stealthy and suddenly lurch into the next lane because if you gave ANY hint, especially politely signalling your intent to switch lanes/merge, people would LITERALLY - not exaggerating at all - speed up or do whatever it took to block you.

I've never experienced it in another city. Everyone, all the time. I can count on one hand the number of times in 6 years that someone let me into their lane without a fight.

I'm one of those people who thinks people are more or less the same everywhere... but that was truly a relief to get out of. People here can be c**ts behind the wheel too, but if you signal, you never have to wait more than one car for someone to make room.

Really? I'd say average speed on rural sections of autoroutes is easily 120-125.

In urban and suburban sections it is a bit less.

On good traffic days in rural highways, such as the QE2 expressway between Calgary - Red Deer - Edmonton, it is about 125 or so. Our speed limits are 110 km/h. In the city, on a good traffic day, it is 100, but if you have room to pass, easily make it to 120. Speed limits inside the city are 100.

The speed limit in Alberta is 110 and most traffic goes about 110-130, at least on hwy 1. I suspect hwy 2 may have higher speeds, but I never drive it.

Well I'm not sure, hence when I always drive 118-120 between Québec city to Montréal every months or so, and I looks like I pass 90% of the cars I meet.

I should check again because it's summertime now...
It may depend of the Expressways aswell. A20 seems faster than A40 cause it's the main Autoroute of the province such as 401 in Wintario.
