  • Harbour Landing West (Catholic side first, then public - already under construction)
  • Greens-area joint elementary
  • Greens-area joint high school

Anything in Coopertown likely wouldn't come until after the Greens elementary, for sure.

According to details Semple provided to city council back in June, the space will include a 200-seat restaurant and bar, an expansion of the Regina Pats store and a 500-capacity music venue.

The Brandt CEO said that once it is fully operational, it will create more than 100 new jobs, with the possibility of as many as 200.

According to the lease, the event centre will be allocated 60 parking stalls on the exhibition grounds and feature an outdoor patio.
How the push for REAL profitability led to Shaun Semple's 90-year lease

Deal came as city council and the public were hungry for REAL to have a 'win,' says a councillor

Central Library project moves forward with request for qualifications
Regina Public Library board gives go ahead for Request for Qualifications process to find a development partner for the renewal of the Central Library.
REGINA - The long-discussed Regina Central Library renewal took an important next step towards becoming reality Tuesday.

At a meeting of the Regina Public Library board, they have approved moving ahead with a Request for Qualifications process to identify a developer partner for the Central Library project.

Regina Public Library board chair Marj Gavigan confirmed the next steps in a news conference held prior to the board meeting.

"Finally after so many years we are ready to find a developer to help advance this project," said Gavigan.

What the RFQ would entail, according to Jeff Barber, Library Director and CEO of Regina Public Library, is for developers to "let us know that they have an idea or they have a current development but most of all that they have the skills, ability and financial ability to pull this off.

I feel a bit bad for the library and the Sweat Lodge proponents. Had they introduced these ideas 5 years ago, they may have gotten a fair shake. However, in 2025 the city is obviously tapped for cash and the appetite for anything new that hasn't already been approved is almost nothing.

Well, wait and see what happens with the library proposal. Maybe they can rent a space from a new development, I’m all for the sweat lodge anything to help the community it’s a good thing

Business is rebounding at the Regina steel plant under its new ownership as orders come in.

Interpro is currently searching for over 400 additional workers, bringing the total workforce at the plant to over 1,000.

https://www.620ckrm.com/2025/09/26/n...ew-school-Next area of Regina to need a new school: Coopertown

By John Cairns
Sep 26, 2025 | 6:55 AM
REGINA — You can add the Coopertown area of Regina to the growing list of areas in the province that will need a new school build.

The ground breaking ceremony for the new neighbourhood took place last week, with reports that the area is expected to attract 36,000 people over the next 30 years.

With that size of population there is already talk of a need for new schools there. But the timing of the sod-turning, and the speed at which the new development is proceeding, has caught education officials by surprise.

“We might have been as shocked as many on that announcement,” said Adam Hicks, chair of the Regina Public School Board.

Hicks made those comments to reporters at the grand opening of the new tawâw school in Regina on Wednesday. No sooner has the paint dried on that new joint use elementary school than the talk has turned to Coopertown.

“We’re excited,” said Hicks. “We know it was green-lit from the city in their development plan, so we knew that it was in the works already. It had been green-lit to be a development. What we weren’t ready for is how quick that’s potentially moving ahead.”

REGINA — The City of Regina is starting to move ahead with planning for the Taylor Field Redevelopment (TFR).

On Wednesday, Regina’s executive committee was presented with a report outlining the city’s plan to issue and award a negotiated request for proposal to an engineering consulting firm and professional services for the project.

Daren Anderson, City of Regina chief financial officer, said this report’s approval is required since the consulting contract is expected to exceed $750,000, per the city's bylaw.

“The fees are related to all the detailed designs for the construction of all the services for the area. So that will include ... 10th Avenue from Elphinstone [Street] over to Albert Street [and everything south of that],” said Chad Jedlic, City of Regina director of land, real estate and economic development

Jedlic also mentioned designs for a community park and underground services, including water and wastewater services.

Regina considers 50 per cent surcharge for non-resident leisure registration

By Daniel Reech
Oct 2, 2025 | 6:57 PM
Non-Regina residents could face higher rates for using the city’s recreational facilities starting next year.

Regina city council will consider implementing a 50 per cent surcharge for registered programs like swimming lessons and arts lessons.

These people in charge are not very smart. Did they not realize that non residences spend millions and millions of dollars shopping and going to restaurants other than that dumb to realize that

This wouldn't really affect those tourism dollars, though. This (I imagine) is more targeted towards people living in satellite communities such as White City who don't pay any general taxes that feed into the programs, but still use them.

https://www.620ckrm.com/2025/10/03/g...zer-Government funding sought for Genesis fertilizer plant

By Doug Falconer

Genesis Fertilizers is seeking government support for the mega-project.

Derek Penner, president of the company trying to build a $2.3 billion nitrogen fertilizer plant in Belle Plaine, Sask., says the project aligns with prime minister Mark Carney’s vision for the country.

Carney wants to reduce Canada’s reliance on trade with the United States while bolstering the domestic market for Canadian goods and services.

Penner says the proposed Genesis project would support farmers, provide food and fertilizer security and allow Canadians to invest in a homegrown value-added projec

Housing markets continue outperforming long-term trends in Sask.

By CKOM News
Oct 8, 2025 | 5:47 AM

According to the association, all regions of the province are reporting inventory levels “well below what is typical for this time of year,” with conditions tightest in areas around Saskatoon and Regina.

Regina reported 375 sales last month, which was 37 per cent higher than the 10-year average. Regina’s benchmark price was sitting at $337,000 in September, down from $341,300 in August. But despite the dip, the association noted that prices in the Queen City were five per cent higher than September of 2024.

In Saskatoon, there were 426 homes sold in September, which represents a 20 per cent increase over the city’s 10-year average. The benchmark price in Saskatoon sat at $431,400 last month, dropping slightly from the record-high $435,900 reported in August. But while the benchmark dropped slightly month to month, Saskatoon’s prices were up seven per cent over September of 2024.

Yeah, Regina is seeing the full impact of people moving here from larger markets like Vancouver and Toronto. Homes are often going for $20,000+ over asking price with no conditions, including no home inspection, etc.

Insane. Unfortunately there's little we can do except build more housing, if people want to move here.

Going to be beautiful’: Bushwakker manager excited for Dewdney revitalization to wrap up

By Daniel Reech
Oct 10, 2025 | 6:04 AM
Construction on Dewdney Avenue is nearing the finish line – a welcoming thought for the manager of Bushwakker Brewpub, which is on 2206 Dewdney Ave.

Road access to Dewdney has been restricted due to work on the two-year Dewdney Avenue Corridor Revitalization Project.

Manager Grant Frew said this has caused fewer customers to walk through the restaurant’s doors.

“It has been tough, definitely slower. This has had an impact on our business,” Frew said.

“We’ve kind of been playing it day by day, week by week. We’ll have a few good days that’ll help carry us along, so it’ll be nice when this is all done and we can get back to business as normal.”

Although the project has hurt business, Frew said he’s still very excited to see what the street will look like when it’s finished.

“It’s been a long two years, but all of the underground excavation work is now completed on the Dewdney Avenue Revitalization Project. So now what they’re doing is all cosmetic: the nice paving stones, the trees, the lighting and the new asphalt on the streets,” Frew said.

“The full set of lights right on our corner – that’s going to be great with the pedestrian crossing. So it’s really nice to see, it gives us a sense of optimism.”
