In Vancouver, the trees in front of The Capitol condo on Seymour have always died due to all the dog pee.

LOL , hilarious that you think there are just a couple people who have different viewpoints than you. Speaking of Richards, that redone bike lane has to be the biggest waste of money in terms of how little increased bike traffic there is after the millions blown redoing it. And most of what is there seems to be DoorDash deliveries to people who should drag their asses out to get the food themselves.

The bike lanes add to the city and the money is well spent as an investment in its future. Just because you don't see value in them doesn't mean they are a waste; quite the opposite in fact.

This doesn't make any sense. The Haro / Smithe bike lane is quite busy, and all southbound traffic has to use the Richards lane since Haro / Smithe becomes one-way at that intersection. Next time you turn left from Richards onto Nelson, take a look at all the bikes queued to continue straight.

I also wonder how all of the cargo bikes frequently parked at Rainbow Park get their without using the lane.

Sorry I'm usually closer to the north end of the bike lane so my reference was more on that end closer to Gastown.

Richards Street is a very successful example of a complete street and I'm glad it's getting its flowers.

As someone who lives nearby, the experience of walking along it is night and day compared to using Seymour. Traffic is slower, there is better landscaping and more active transportation facilities.

I lived in Toronto for a long timeand the public realm and pedestrian experience was absolutely awful. The design approach to most things was incredibly utilitarian, facilities were very narrow and substandard, visual clutter everywhere (poles, cables, streetcar tracks...), lack of seating and greenery. I also noticed how quickly improvements deteriorated due to heavy use, weather conditions, lack of maintenance and austere city maintenance services.

It is quite busy south of Dunsmuir. There's been construction at Richards and Pender for months that has obstructed the lane, so I'd guess it'll be busier once that wraps up.

If you want to experience the night-and-day difference a bike lane buffer makes for the pedestrian experience, you don't need to go all the way to Seymour. Just cross to the other side of Richards.
