Calgary:"Hey Edmonton, hold my beer..."
Edmonton: "Anytime! Need anything else? Some more head offices? Young talented minds? Connecting air passengers?"
Calgary: *Whispers* "This is too easy..."

It is just the typical arrogance coming from southern Alberta.

I am sure The Edmonton Fringe, Edmonton Folk Festival and other events could set some fireworks off and do some adverts in Calgary. Maybe even rename them. Edmonton Fringe could be the Canada Fringe and the Edmonton Heritage Days could be the Canada Heritage Day Festival. Why Not?

why not??? maybe for the same reason that it isn't being renamed "the canada stampede"?

The local Calgary Stampede fireworks are at the exhibition grounds instead of the Legislature grounds (Canada Day fireworks) or Churchill Square (New Years Eve fireworks), plus it's my understanding that it's only for one night. I hope people follow my lead and simply ignore them.

^Edmonton Festival Fireworks being done in Calgary would never happen.

Who in the city administration approved this?

Not going to lie... this province could use some unification these days and so enjoy it for what it is, not what you are implying it is trying to be.

Unification - more like assimilation.

We do not want Alberta to be - Calgary and that other city

Hearing this morning more reaction about the Alberta Stampede provincial fireworks - looks like I am not the only one annoyed by it.

It's just fireworks. What's good for Calgary is good for Alberta. Same for Edmonton. Pretty much one regional economy. They can't get int'l tourists, so they're relying on Albertans to make it happen. No int'l tourist is going to Kdays. We have other things, they have Stampede. All good.

If it is at the expo ground then I should be safer what with fire bans in place.

I don't think the Stampede is paying for this so it must be funded by the GoA. Another waste of money.

^ Yes fireworks are a minor issue but it highlights the ability of Calgary to sell itself as the predominant brand/influence in Alberta while Edmonton dithers and falls further behind.

Or maybe Greenspace is right and everything is sweetness and light. No problems here.

^City rivalries are fine for hockey, when it comes to economic issues or tourism makes no sense. Alberta is a pretty integrated economy, really want Edmonton to succeed but it's really all part of the same province/megaregion.
