I agree the architecture looks decent, but I really hate that "L" shaped tower. The corner of Cumberland & George is not going to see much sun after these go up.

Looks like more lazy Roderick Lahey Nouveau-Brutalist institutional looking garbage to me. The only redeeming factor architecturally is that it's a little different compared to the other Claridge travesties on Rideau Street. At least the great wall of Ottawa will have a couple of new shades aside from precast beige and teal.

I hate the look of these already (and they aren't even built yet). We know they will look like a piece of garbage with random leftover materials from other Claridge projects and the mix of panels, yellowish and black bricks will end up looking messy and like trash the moment it goes up.

Reminds me of Andaz meets Envie

I hate how these buildings already look 50 years out of style and they haven't even started building it yet!

What is it with architects in this city and their love of blank walls and small windows? Why does every new building going up in this city have to look like a penitentiary cell block!?

As much as the all glass/exposed concrete trend has died out Urban Capital's projects seem to be aging well. East Market and Mondrian look great and modern compared to the Great Wall of Claridge.

Yeah exterior was more classic. When it first opened I lived in a south facing upper unit in 179 George Street. It was really a lone tower back then with long views south. The view has steadily deteriorated but it's incredible to see how urban the area is/will be. I see the south facing Penthouse is for sale right now. With people buying only with virtual tours maybe some buyers don't realize the view will be of a wall of apartments.

I drove through the newly re-opened stretch of Rideau this evening and it is actually really nice. Huge improvement over what it looked like before and I just got the sense that Ottawa feels like a big city.

What struck me is how pedestrian friendly the area has become and how much slower cars and buses are driving because of the limited street width.

Although I'm not a huge fan of the design of these buildings, I like the density they'll bring to Rideau St.

Yeah it's going to look very dense, but it's just a shame they tore down the Nate's Deli to build a tower but ended up building a massive Shopper's Drug Mart instead. That would have really added to the big city canyon.

According to what I can make out with the traffic cameras corner of King Edward and Rideau, they're not anywhere near grade level .
