Hopefully they don't close the Round Rock or Lakeline locations.

Those are almost always full, so I can't imagine them doing so. It's a suburban chain, in reality, and probably had no place in urban Austin. The aesthetic just isn't there for them to be successful on S. Lamar.

Thanks Zedaref. They are really tearing into the place and not just dropping their concept inside and old Fuddruckers building. Interesting to have Red's Porch, Pluckers and now The Park all within a half mile of each other. Pent up demand for sports bars in South Austin or survival of the fittest?

They were successful for many, many years in that location. Seems like they've been there forever.

They have. The last time I ate there about a year ago, I was talking to one of the employees who started there when it opened and she'd been there 17 years. It was here when I moved into my complex (behind Brodie Oaks Shopping Center) in January of 1997.

Here's an article from 2005 when Fuddrucker's moved their headquarters here and they mentioned the store on S. Lamar.

Fuddruckers shifts HQ to Austin

Fuddruckers is taking a unique approach to its branding and restaurant design by converting its "Fudd 66" model -- which included The Beatles and Elvis Presley memorabilia adorning restaurant interiors -- to a less-cluttered, up-to-date scheme.

The company's flagship store, at South Lamar and Ben White boulevards in South Austin, underwent exterior remodeling changes last year and is set for an interior makeover, Pannek says.

Luckily the place in your avatar is reopening soon! Love Dan's. I've tried many of the "burger wars" places that popped up recently (whether gourmet or fast), but I just keep coming back to Dan's.

Fuddrucker's was great, but it's concept is really dated and probably only appeals to families at this point. Burger fanatics have a lot of new places competing for their business. In-N-Out was going to open up just down the road from Fuddruckers, too.

I agree. Nothing beats Dan's.

I liked Fuddruckers for the sheer size of the burger, the buns were great, and I could pile as many pickles as I wanted on it for no extra charge.

I just went and read some Yelp reviews of that Fuddruckers. Many poor reviews on the surface, but when you look closer, it's a bunch of young people that were doing it all wrong. They were ordering chicken tenders, chicken sandwiches, veggie burgers, etc. They were complaining about it being greasy, and the toppings bland. Greasy burgers are good! And sorry they don't have gorgonzola, pineapple or some other kind of whacko bird toppings that all the hipsters like nowadays.

Oh well. I'm more upset because my dad enjoyed the place. My mom didn't, so when it was just he and I, and we were in the area, all I had to say was "you hungry?" and we'd end up there.

Pluckers was very so-so for me. I don't think I'd go back. The chicken strips were pretty "meh" for me. I'm going to miss Fuddruckers, though. Their burgers were great. I also really liked their fries.

I hope the leases at the apartments by the Broken Spoke have a clause that says they can't complain about music. :-/

That should be in the contract of every single apartment building in the city. It is the "live music capital of the world" after all.

I was reading one post from someone on Facebook on Big Red Dog's page. The photo they were commenting on was showing the view of the Broken Spoke from one of the units. The person said they would love to live there to be that close to the music and food. I suspect the Broken Spoke will be safe there. Does anyone know if there is increased parking for the Broken Spoke with this development? Will they share parking in the garage?

Lamar Union developer rolls out new restaurant tenants

Jan Buchholz
Staff Writer-
Austin Business Journal

The highly anticipated opening of Lamar Union later this year on South Lamar Boulevard will include nearly 86,000 square feet of retail space in addition to the new Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. Developer Greystar has announced a couple of new tenants and a full rundown of retailers on tap.

A new restaurant tenant is Cantine by Emmett and Lisa Fox, owners of Asti Trattoria and Fino Restaurant Patio & Bar.

Meanwhile, Vox Restaurant Group, created by Vincent Manguino and chef Joe Anguiano — formerly of Eleven Plates & Wine, will open Vox Table.

According to this article from Community Impact, the Broken Spoke is getting more parking from the apartment complex, so the answer is yes. Just imagine how much more business the Broken Spoke, Kerby Lane, Torchy's and Reds Porch are going to get when those apartments fill up.
