You've yet to see this area's terrible (non-existent) street life.

I wouldn't say that. My mom has a condo on Bedros Lane and I walk up to the Sobey's when I visit or the shoppers. It's a brisk walk and it's up hill but it is still quite nice. It just depends on who is doing the walking and whether they want to actually walk...I don't mind the uphill. It's quite good.

Ok... I get that if the planning is terrible....

But, imagine no height and surburban layout? I'll take towers over 3 story apartment buildings any day.

I was pleasantly surprised to see them from the Sexton Campus (TUNS):

^ I love how the glass on the Vic penthouse compliments the glass on the NS power building from this view.

Some great new aerial photos on the "Dear Halifax" Facebook page. They can be found here -- http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...6234491&type=1

Here is a sample one below.

They claim those are from December, but they look a little older than that, probably September or October.

Yeah, I think the full foliage on the trees are a good indication of that lol.

Excellent shots, SMH! I think this is your best update yet...

It's great to see the enormous effect the Citadel towers will have on the skyline from this classic angle. They will also help to broaden the view of downtown coming across the MacDonald Bridge and from Barrington St. North, where it can look kind of narrow.

^^^

The Cundard 'Cruise Ship' development and the Alexander would look great at this angle.

I would really like for the next "round" of development to be centred around the area below Hollis between Sackville and Marginal Road. That part of town has a lot of potential but too many surface lots to come together as a real neighbourhood. There also isn't enough connectivity between the downtown and the southern waterfront area; most paths a pedestrian could take through that area have very little to offer.

I totally agree. The Alexander will be huge for that block and I'm excited for the one next to the UG lot.

These aerials are pretty nice too, though unfortunately lower resolution.

There are definitely fewer parking lots than 5 or 10 years ago, both downtown and in the North End.

I'm posting this skyline picture, taken last week (which belongs to a friend of mine who recently moved to Dartmouth), because the Citadel redevelopment's progress is visible. The most developed tower will be topping out shortly.

I look forward to what will eventually be a solid, developed 'downtown Halifax skyline': a clusters of towers that extends all the way to the Ocean Towers, and even further northward.
