You can keep feeding LCBO Store 571 suggestions (and moral support).

This is great. Done! I also spread the word on a Bar Towel forum. I'm sure the suggestions will keep flowing in.

Went trough Jackson yesterday and noticed the Anchor Bar is very close to completion. They were taking down the hoarding on the outside by the McDonalds and had some food on a cart waiting to be taken inside, which would indicate they are probably ready to open in a week or two. Couldn't see much inside but what I did see looked really tasteful.

A couple pictures on their Twitter give hints of the interior.

Looks like they're planning on opening Feb 1.

You can see the interior of Anchor Bar from the new entrance off of King Street (beside McDonald's). Looks pretty decent - lots of booths, TVs, a big pizza oven, etc. It looked like they were having a staff training session last night, so a Feb 1 opening seems entirely possible.

In the food court, beside the sushi place there's a new place called Tabouli going in. Looks to be a greek/mediterrean place. Too bad they haven't covered up the ceilings in that area.

Also if I were the mall I would offer free wifi in the food court. I notice the Rogers signal seems to suck there.

Anchor Bar ready for downtown Hamilton wingding

http://www.thespec.com/news/business...ilton-wingding

Hamilton’s newest restaurant will be used as a template to expand the chain in Canada.

The highly anticipated Anchor Bar will open in Jackson Square Friday. It’s the first location north of the border, but plenty of southern Ontario residents have eaten at the iconic location in downtown Buffalo — the home of the original chicken wing.

Plenty of people are also lining up for a chance at a Canadian franchise, says co-owner David Copperthwaite of Burlington. He and business partner Gary Reed of Oakville have received more than 100 applications so far.

But for now, they’re focused on getting this 5,000-square-foot wing joint off the ground.

....

Sidebar

NEED TO KNOW
Some fast facts about the Anchor Bar in downtown Hamilton:
• 8 wings for $11.99 (99 cents more for suicide flavour, $1.99 for Abandon Ship!)
• Seats 150
• 120 staff
• 9 TVs, from 60-inch to 80-inch
• Custom 5,000-pound Italian wood-burning oven cooks 180 pizzas an hour
• Hemlock bar is 1,200 pounds
• Desserts come from the Cheesecake Factory Bakery
• Work will soon begin on a rooftop patio to seat 125 people
• According to the menu: “Not responsible for misplaced property, political unrest, coaching decisions, bad punctuation, misspelled words, the economy.”

The rooftop patio is a great idea. Maybe it will lead to more use of the Jackson roof besides smokers and the odd weekend road hockey game.

rooftop patio? That's awesome! That might actually work...will feel a little eerie sitting up there but maybe it could start something. I wonder how they will access it...

Walt's/Waltz had a rooftop patio as well. It's located directly above the restaurant, accessable by the stairs between the Sheraton and McDonald's.

I'm not a fan of what Yale's done, or not done as the case may be, but if there's money to be made, they'll invest: I think they're showing that.

Is that $7 million in Jackson Square upgrades, or is just a rehash of Nations Fresh's $7 million creating retail buzz?

I know Yale has been knocking together drywall and carving up the food court for new tenants over the past few months, but as commercial landlords they're famously thrifty.

I fully expect this place to be jammed - I'll be stunned if it isn't. Nobody likes having to go to Fortinos or No Frills and the smaller supermarkets can be overpriced. Really looking forward to it opening.

Looks about a month away from opening. The Anchor Bar patio is also nearly finished.

Looking forward to another option to our local supermarket, Danny's No Thrills. A place where on any given day "customers" are routinely thrown out or refused entry!

^Very sketchy indeed. And the Fud Basic on Barton isn't much better, though it is conveniently located next to the local jail.
