Man oh man. The Lasalle Street bascule bridge looks stunning in those photographs. The perfect blend of masculinity, grace and monumentality. Just beautiful. I Love Chicago!

Stats

Hello all,

I am sure most of you already are familiar with these numbers, but just for kicks I compiled some data from Emporis. I think this puts into perspective how awesome the current building boom is.

Following are cities in America with buildings taller than 300 N. LaSalle, and the number of buildings taller.

784 ft = 238.96 meters

Number of buildings >= 238 meters
New York - 13
Chicago - 10
Houston - 4
Dallas - 3
Atlanta - 3
Philadelphia - 3
Los Angeles - 2
Pittsburg - 1
San Francisco - 1
Seattle - 1
Miami - 1
Cleveland - 1
Minneapolis - 1

If 300 N. LaSalle were the tallest building currently under construction in Chicago, it would be the 11th tallest in the city upon completion.

If nothing else starts in Chicago (highly unlikely) in the next three years, 300 N. LaSalle will be the 13th tallest.

If all of the presently serious proposals for buildings in Chicago are built, 300 N. LaSalle could be the 18th tallest.

Are we being a little bit self congratulatory and pompous? Fuck it, Chicago rocks!

The month of May is always one full of site changes, isn't it?

300 North LaSalle's website finally works, but not with much info. I'm surprised that it isn't on the boom front page though www.300northlasalle.com
They also have a nice little pdf with available floors (a lot at the top).

How will it be lit? That rendering looks like it's going to shoot light up the top, kind of like 311 Wacker, but way cooler because the whole facade is glass.

The architect's website has finally included this project. There are a couple of new renderings and a description:

Here's to hoping that they do more in Chicago, both residential and commercial. They do grade A work. Their portfolio is impressive.

Im loving the riverfront plaza. Im just noticing its multi-level. And if this turns out like their recent project in Atlanta (One Symphony Center), we will have a damn good office tower on our skyline.

A great project just got better after seeing this. Great crown, and nice to see columnless corners. This will be a really nice tower that fits perfectly on the north bank.

Outstanding addition to the skyline, one of my favorites to hopefully rise in Chitown, with FS and Waterview.

I like how the primary emphasis is vertical, but there's still plenty of horizontal delineation....i think they'll combine to give the impression of this thing soaring to the sky.

Steel and reflective glass. It's a good combination, but it's been done before (Pelli's Cheung Kong Centre in HK).
