I'm not so sure if there was any work done on this in the last year, even though it has been covered. I have seen workers on site the past few weeks, though this makes me wonder if the restoration has only just started...

I emailed the developer out of curiosity and he said they are still fully committed to this project but could not give any timeline on when it might start.

I wonder when they plan to start?

There are a number of approved downtown residential projects, but I don't know of any condo projects that are actually being marketed right now. I guess Clyde Street could start soon, but I'm not sure if that will be condo or rental. It seems like a good time to start a residential project since other buildings like the Trillium are being or have been finished off and the economy is picking up.

This is why I'm surprised they haven't begun.
The better-than-expected sales King's Wharf is enjoying should be enough to move any developer into wanting a piece of that market.

I was hoping the construction of a new, high-tech library so close to the Alexander site would encourage them as well.

Is Keith Hall still covered in scaffolding?

Anybody have pictures of some of the modifications made to the Lower Water Street facade of the brewery?

Every time I see this pop up to the top my heart soars "finally this is going ahead" and every time I feel let down!

I tried to take some pics 4 weeks ago, but the scaffolding was covered top to bottom with tarps. I could see in the south side and it looked like all the sandstone on that corner was taken off for refinishing... not enough light to make it worth taking a picture, it was like looking into a cave.

Me too. All the other bits of development that HAVE been done on that block have been pretty good (Hollis side of the hotel leaves a bit to be desired, but what the heck)... I remain hopeful.

I think this one's interesting because it in an "emerging" neighbourhood that used to be mostly parking lots. If the tower's built I think it will complement the Cunard tower and Maritime Centre nicely. Keith Hall is a gem and is part of a very distinguished row of heritage buildings.

Thanks for the photos. I wonder how much longer it will be until the facade is uncovered? It's been a while, but then again the building's exterior is pretty elaborate and was in rough shape.

The condo tower gets a lot of attention but there are also two small development sites on Hollis that are part of the brewery development. The first is the "Halkirk House" site between Keith Hall and Wier House, and the second is the one on the corner where there used to be a small Longshoremen's Association building (they have a new building on Morris Street). I've never seen any plans for the Hollis/Bishop corner lot.

Yeah this whole area has on the whole really come along, and a new brewery condo tower combined with a refurbished Keith Hall add a ton. Mix in the potential to have the Cunard lot with 20 stories and 5 years from now this area could be amazing.

PS: I just noticed this morning that we have a facebook friend in common. Too funny.

This angle shows both the Cunard site and Alexander tower site:

Is this project going to proceed... if so when? I really like the tower, but it seems so many developments are languishing right now!

There's only demand for so many of these though and many of the developments are in competition with each other. It's not realistic to expect them all to go up at once.

That being said, I do hope this one moves forward at some point. As pointed out above, if this gets built along with the Cunard lot and some other improvements the southern waterfront will be quite nice.

I'm not sure if I've posted this before but here is a shot of Keith Hall in 1942. It doesn't look like it was in great shape even then but its mansard roof was still intact.
