Great find! That photo makes Boston look a lot closer than in person! Must be a good zoom lense.

Cool 5 Skylines in One Vision

One can see Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga, and Toronto (from left to right, south to north) on a good day from the Niagara Frontier Country Club's clubhouse yard on the Niagara Escarpment just north of the American Falls in Lewiston.

Bumping a bit of an old thread but I stumbled upon this image and it is the only shot I can think of with a view of Miami and Fort Lauderdale's skylines in one shot.

Fort Lauderdale is on the right and Miami is at the far far top left:

I count way more than 7 skylines in that photo, even if you combine a few of what I consider distinct clusters of skyscrapers into one "skyline".

Wow that's rather impressive. Didn't know Vancouver had that many skyscrapers and random clusters of them. Canadian cities are awesome.

a more recent shot of SF and Oakland:

Golden State by Joe Parks, on Flickr

SF and Emeryville:

San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge by Marquis Houghton, on Flickr

Here's an older panorama, showing the SF and Oakland skylines, plus all the mini skylines from Daly City (Seton medical Center, way over on the left), to South San Francisco, Burlingame, San Mateo, and Foster City on the peninsula, and Emeryville, Berkeley and El Cerrito (just barely) in the east bay. I think you can just barely see the Hayward "skyline" (a single ten story building) too:

Upper San Francisco Peninsula Panorama by Peter Kaminski, on Flickr

Aside from SF and Oakland those skylines are all pretty small and mostly comprised of midrises with a few short highrises thrown in, but they do stand out in the suburbs.

Van is definitely one of North America's most impressive cities.

This is why western islands of the chain are much smaller than the big island, they are slowly sinking.
They aren't sinking, they're eroding as no new basalt is getting erupted onto the islands which ahve moved off the hot spot.

It's a combination of sinking and erosion as the Hawaiian chain moves away from the hotspot, earthquake activity associated with the hotspot contribute to the sinking of parts of Hawaii also. Parts of the Big Island is sinking at about 1ft/year.

Quote:
Several geologic processes contribute to subsidence along Kīlauea's coast—the island of Hawai`i is sinking at a rate of a few millimeters (fractions of an inch) per year as its weight depresses the underlying crust.
USGS

Quote:
An important question to ask is "why is Hawaii slowly sinking?" The answer lies in the great weight of the islands that slowly bends the underlying lithosphere, the outer, nearly rigid, 50-mile thick layer of the Earth.
