I think the news articles are probably exaggerating the freak out aspect… but still, Olympics (Bejing), Suoerbowl and…. Austin? Pretty impressive.

Not Austin. SXSW. Which is kind of in the same league as the Olympics and the Superbowl, at least in the entertainment and tech scene.

I cant see the top of the controller but I would imagine like a DJI (which is what I fly) there is a dial or buttons on top of the remote to rotate the camera up or down.

I can't get the application to work on my iphone or ipad - I downloaded two different - each with like 8 reviews - which is worrisome.

I can move the camera up or down; I am unable to connect the device -- I use the wifi and have followed the directions and have watched youtube - no luck.

You're not one of those people scared of the proposed 250' high-rises in Brodie Oaks that could be seen in nearby neighborhoods and greenspace are you?

Most of those types of people are homeowners. I live in an apartment complex (the same one for the last 24 years) so I don't oppose the development at all. Once that whole Brodie Oaks development is complete I'm sure it will be nice, but at the same time it will most likely jack the rents up even higher than they already are.

Bought in Highland 5 years ago.

Previously I have lived in Tarrytown, Gracywoods, E Riverside, and Clarksville/Downtown. Oh, also up in Georgetown.

Grew up and lived almost all of my life in Jollyville a few blocks from Pond Springs Elementary. My folk's bought in '90 and our back fence is the city limit. Very close to the Apple campus. Felt like the sticks back in the day. First time home in 3 months and I'm shocked at how much the area continues to evolve.

Currently renting in University Park (Dallas) while working in grad school, but I'm infinitely happy to be back in Central Texas for Spring break (even during SXSW). DFW has a lot of stuff for sure, but Austin is still a cohesive city in spite of our rapid growth. It's also is a much nicer and more welcoming place to live, though I'll likely never be able to afford to move back based on current trends. The closest thing to topography up in North Texas are the highway interchanges and mega-landfills right on the banks of the Trinity and it's tributaries. Great food, though, if you're willing to drive an hour amongst the worst drivers in Texas.

You should take a look at Fort Worth. It reminds me of Austin in some ways.

I respect your thoughts. However, I believe Austin and Ft. Worth have very little in common. Very little.

Except that Fort Worth is kind of laid back and true to its Texas roots in a way that is similar to how Austin felt a few decades back. You have to spend a bit of time in FW to understand how that works. Otherwise, the two cities have little in common.

S Lamar and Treadwell.

Austinite since ‘83. Zilkerite since ‘11.

UT from 87-92 planning to return to finish my 30 hours next fall.

Stanch defender of our fair city, as she fulfills her destiny. It’s been love from first sight, cheesy but true. I vividly recall pulling into town from Natchez, Mississippi…January of ‘83, especially the sideways stop lights.

I moved to Austin around the same time as you did and for me it was love at first sight too.

Culture or Courthouse at a Historic Municipal Building in Downtown Austin

https://austin.towers.net/culture-or...wntown-austin/

On March 24, Austin City Council will, once again, consider approving actions to permanently move the Downtown Austin Community Court to the former City Municipal Building at 124 West Eighth Street. Key downtown stakeholders, residents, property owners, and business operators oppose the proposed actions, which were postponed by city council on Dec. 2, Jan. 27 and Feb. 17.

The property is in the heart of downtown at the northeast corner of Eighth and Colorado Streets. It was the location of the first Austin-based Texas State Capitol until 1856 when the State gave the property to the city to use as a city hall and market house. The site, which was home to Austin City Hall until 2004, saw multiple renovations between 1858 and 1938, leading to the Art Moderne style building seen today. Since Austin’s new city hall opened in 2004, the building has housed the city’s controller and purchasing offices.

...

While the Council’s decision on the future use of the historic former municipal building remains uncertain, two things are clear: First, the decision that Austin City Council makes will have a long-lasting impact on downtown’s vibrancy and continued growth as an economic and cultural center. Second, history will be the judge as to whether the long-term impact of City Council’s decision is positive or negative for downtown and the city as a whole

Move to Austin summer of 2015. Just north of Anderson between Burnet and Lamar.
