Yes, seems logical.

I thought we were not negotiating about closing threads upon original completion of the project. I mean, for reasons.

Nothing, apparently.

The Vancouver Sun reports that the 50% interest sold was a "non-managing" interest, so Cadillac Fairview is still solely responsible for managing Pacific Centre.
But I suppose that may not include capital expenditures / expansions.

The article also says that Richmond Centre was not included.
So either Cadillac Fairview will use some of the cash raised to redevelop Richmond Centre (as seen in the Suburban Thread)
or is partnering with someone else (and will sell an interest to the co-developer).

Richmond Centre is already 50% co-owned between CF and Ivanhoe Cambridge.

And you are correct the Pacific Centre and Waterfront Centre sale will have no affect on how the centre is managed/developed, it just means there is a lot more capital available to do so.

... since this now the defector general "CF Pacific Centre" thread...

Ciruclated around the office today.
Urban Eatery is the name of the food court at CF Toronto Eaton Centre.

Quote:
DATE: February 9, 2017

ATTENTION: All Office Tenants – Pacific Centre and HSBC Building

WHAT: CF Pacific Centre Food Court Revitalization

WHEN: Beginning now through summer 2017

WHY: We are excited to announce improvements and upgrades to the CF Pacific Centre Food Court, set to take place over the next several months. We look forward to welcoming new food retailers, including Edo Japan, Chachi's and Living Foods, to our shopping centre.

Additionally, we will also introduce improvements to the common area space, giving it a new, rejuvenated look. We will introduce more welcoming seating pods and communal table options to best cater to our urban environment, as well as add new and enhanced lighting and feature wall treatments. Cadillac Fairview recently completed a branding exercise with the intent to rename the CF Pacific Centre Food Court. We are pleased to share our newly rejuvenated Food Court will relaunch as the URBAN EATERY this coming summer.

IMPACT: During this time, certain units will close for approximately two months at a time as they undergo construction. New retailers will be open for business as their renovation work is completed. We thank you for your patience with wait times during this construction period.
blogTO on their Urban Eatery - apparently all reusable plates and cutlery and no garbage bins.
Don't know if that'll be the case here or not.

It's being changed slightly. City of Vancouver didn't like how it looked so they are forcing CF to change the colour scheme.

Don't expect anything too drastic.

Depends on which day you asked...

In the end the design was not approved before it was installed by CF and the City did not like what was put up.

Good, take the whole thing down and make it at least somewhat consistent with the building. Such a mess, this building...

Wow, that amount of micromanaging is insane.

Totally agreed. That sign looked alright to me. CoV is putting its nose up into everything....except when it truly counts. Thing is, changing a big store sign isn't cheap.

Yeah, I wish they cared about picking up the garbage and washing the streets (such as Granville) as much as they care about micromanaging the designs of signage.

Well signage regulation is nothing new here. And I personally hated the sign and if I were to guess I bet they continue that whitish background and stick black lettering on it.

The signage was cheap and unbecoming for such a location. CF should have recognized that on their own. If it's not a major improvement on what was previously there it's their own fault.

I agree that the sign they used was terrible for the location. But I have the opposite feeling I guess than the above posters for what should be there. This is essentially our Times Square, the signage / lighting there should be bright, animated, and colorful. It is the most ideal location in the entire metro for such signage and lighting.

Something similar to what is being done at the base of Gold House in Metrotown is what should have been done at this corner and along Granville.

Yes, absolutely insane!

The City has no business getting involved with things at this level: they think they are protecting the ever so abstract notion of "the public good." Problem is they don't have the expertise, and if they did, they have no defense for the idea that a public body's version of 'taste' or 'suitability' is better than anything developed by whatever developer/owner/leaser combination that applies. One body deciding these things (designs) leads to what we have - way too much sameness and blandness. These people are idiots to think they (this includes the crazy notion of a design panel) know best for the city at large.

I won't get into the statutory failure of such over-extensions. It is a definite pet peeve!

This is the other Pacific Centre signage - presumably it will match these:

You'd be shocked at how much that sign cost.

It would buy a house on the west side of Vancouver!

UPDATE:

The backdrop is now vertical panelling that looks like a shipping container.
- Could also look like curtains on a theatre stage.
- Either way, the stripes don't match the "petal" frieze (or anything else on the building) at all.

I'm assuming that the bare neon will be enclosed with lettering, but maybe, maybe not.

They should just install a big video screen and be done with it.

Pics by me today - Feb 21, 2017

Honestly, it looked better when the corner was clad in glass and spandrel

(remember that they clad the corner in curtain wall, Nordstrom walled off the windows from the inside,
then the curtain wall was ripped off in favour of the petal frieze)

And I suppose the new wall will provide a good place for a big "Pacific Centre" sign.

Now if they could only re-do that Pacific Centre sign. Those materials and that inset look terrible. It should have just been made all glass to match what is below, and align with the glass along Robson. Would make for a much nicer corner.
